In a medical school session for our entire year group today. Our faculty are encouraging students to look at careers outside of medicine because "when it comes to speciality training - there are simply no jobs". What has UK medicine become?

Can you imagine the rush of adrenaline that must have been experienced when they realised they had accidentally sent this around all their JMOs? @NSWHealth

🪧 Yday PM clinic Pts “Lovely to see you today Dr, I can never get appt with a GP-will you be here permanently now?” Me “Apologies but there are no jobs going for experienced GPs” Pts “You’ve got to be kidding me, how can that be?!” The absolute state of general practice rn.

When patients show up sicker, they stay longer. Without a family doctor they’re harder to discharge or they bounce back. Inpatient units at capacity can’t accept patients from emerg. You’re not waiting in the waiting room for 10 hours because someone showed up with a paper cut.

Poor young woman walked in with her mum to local UTC with classic plaque psoriasis on scalp, face, neck, elbow & thighs burning her skin. Has been trying to see a doctor at her surgery for the last 3 months - passed from pillar to post - pharmacy 1st to seeing everyone but a GP!

I have been a doctor for over 4 years now. Working as a GP registrar is rewarding; my supervisor is amazing, and my colleagues in my practice are fantastic. However, the complexity of General Practice is immense and I am constantly thinking hard every single second of the working day. My colleagues come in early and leave late daily, and go above and beyond for their patients with smiles on their faces. Despite that, newspaper articles like this make me wonder why GPs continue when they are demonised no matter how hard they work. When did GPs become the enemy?

LNC chairs being called in to be told of 'just how serious our financial position is' up and down the country. Sounding pretty system wide. Message to trusts; "if you haven't got the money then you can't have the work". It's a *national* health service, not run on staff subsidy.

Articles like this are just hilarious. So we’re supposed to clear the backlog, in our free time, but not be appropriately remunerated for it? Shall we just do it for the claps and some free crisps in the lunchtime journal club?

You haven't seen complexity in art until you've seen this 600-year-old painting. It's so detailed that modern medicine has been able to diagnose this man's exact type of blindness. And that's where things get mind-bendingly strange — this whole thing is an illusion... 🧵

This 500-year-old portrait may seem ordinary, but it's one of the most mysterious in history. There's so much detail that you can read every musical note on this small page. But look closer — an unsettling secret is hiding in plain sight... 🧵

Just took a quote for the lowest level of Petplan cover for my healthy 5 year old Labrador for ongoing cover...£69.57 per month. Compare this to the 2022/23 global sum payment per patient that GPs received for unlimited appointments, referrals, salary, staff costs, property costs, utilities etc...£120 per Year in my neck of the woods....how is this in any way reasonable. I suspect the public are blissfully unaware of just how little direct funding General Practice in Scotland receives per patient per year.....struggle for a timely appointment...this is why! @BMAScotland @BMA_GP @DrIMChairSGPC @doctor_katie @HMcArdleHT @HelenPuttick @Daily_Record @RCGPScotland @magnusllewellin @DrIainKennedy @Chris_E_Black @ShaunLintern

In 2015, it was estimated that if Wandsworth Prison was sold off for development, it would create space for almost 1,000 homes worth a combined £386m. Why do we dedicate valuable land in the capital to dilapidated Victorian prisons?

Later this week the NHS review paper will be published by Lord Darzi et al . If as predicted they try and push General Practice towards larger scale then it hastens the end of GP as we know it and I l believe will significantly worsen care and experience in the longer term 1/3
