My friend Ayako has translated American movies and TV shows into Japanese subtitles for 22 years. Above her desk, taped to the wall, is a handwritten list. "American sentences that do not exist in Japanese." She let me copy it. 1. "I'm good." Means yes. Means no. Means I'm full, I'm fine, I'm leaving, and please stop asking. She has translated it 31 different ways. She thinks she was right about half the time. 2. "Bless your heart." She translated it as a blessing for six years. Then a woman from Alabama explained it to her, very sweetly. She had to go back and fix four movies. 3. "Hold my beer." Japanese has no phrase for the moment right before a man does something stupid for a cheering crowd. She subtitled it "Someone please call an ambulance." Nobody has ever complained. 4. "Love you, bye." American men say this to their fathers. On the phone. Fast. Like "see you later." In Japanese, "I love you" to your father is a deathbed sentence. The first time she subtitled it, the whole Japanese audience thought the father was dying. He was asking about the Cowboys game. 5. "Come here." An American sees someone crying, says two words, and opens his arms. In Japan, we ask "Are you okay?" and look very carefully at the floor. 6. "Proud of you, kid." Japanese has the words. Japanese fathers just don't use them. Ayako has typed this line more than 400 times. She had heard it in her own house zero times. Her father is 78. A retired machinist. The quietest man I know. He speaks maybe ten words of English. Last spring, he went to see a movie she had translated. Alone. He didn't tell anyone. That night, her phone rang. He said it in English. Exactly the way the American dad said it on the screen. "Proud of you, kid." Then he hung up. Immediately. Before she could say a word. Japanese fathers have not changed that much. She sat on her kitchen floor for an hour. He didn't say it in English because he forgot the Japanese. He said it in English because in English, it was allowed. America, you think you're just talking. Love you, bye. Come here. Proud of you. You've been handing the whole world words we didn't know we were allowed to say. Some of us are finally using them.

I can’t believe we’re two months away from 2027 and the easiest way to save something as a PDF is still to lie to your computer and tell it you’re about to print it.

Jim Carrey Just Explained Depression Better Than Most Therapists Jim Carrey: “Sadness is just from happenstance, whatever happens to you or doesn’t happen to you.” “Depression is your body saying, ‘I don’t want to be this character anymore.’” “You don’t want to carry this persona that you’ve created for the world.” “I heard Jeff Foster talk about depression as ‘deep rest.’” “Your body needs to be depressed. It needs deep rest from the character you’ve been trying to play.” “Sometimes, what feels like breaking down can be a signal that something in your life needs attention.”

Has anyone ever thought to evaluate the overall mental health of our mental health professionals?

STOP CALLING IT A "MEMBER DISCOUNT" I have walked into a grocery store to buy a carton of eggs and a box of cereal. The price tag on shelf: regular price: $9.49 club member price: $4.29 "did you scan your member barcode at checkout?" "no, i just want to buy breakfast." "then it's nine dollars and forty-nine cents." 😑 So, it’s not a discount. 😶 It’s an artificial 120% markup designed to blackmail you into downloading an ad tracker and handing over your email address just to pay the actual cost of a staple food.

CC having to play against the other team, members of her own team, the rigged officials, the commissioner who hates her, the league itself, the jealousy of other players, false-flags calling her and all Fever fans racist, and even her own coaching staff is wild.

Researchers proved AI has deleted every reason universities exist. Harvard University ran a controlled experiment pitting a custom AI against their own top-tier classrooms. And the results are going to collapse the higher education bubble. They took 194 undergraduates and split them up. One group learned physics in one of Harvard’s best hands-on, active-learning physical classrooms. Group work. Instructor support. The premium university experience. The other group went home and learned the exact same material with an AI tutor. The AI didn't just win. It embarrassed the institution. Students using the AI learned more than twice as much as the students in the elite Harvard classroom. They scored 30% higher on the final assessment. And they did it in less time. Let that sink in. A piece of software sitting on a laptop outperformed a world-class faculty in one of the most elite learning environments on Earth. Universities have always justified their exorbitant tuition with two things: access to elite knowledge and the physical classroom experience. This study just proved both of those moats are gone. When software can teach you complex physics twice as well as a $60,000-a-year institution, the math of higher education breaks permanently. The AI didn't just give the students answers. It used strict pedagogical guardrails. It guided. It questioned. It forced the students to do the cognitive work. It offered perfect, one-to-one tutoring, personalized to the exact moment a student misunderstood a concept. That level of attention is mathematically impossible to scale in a physical lecture hall. For a thousand years, the university was the only place to get a premium education. Now, it’s the bottleneck. If AI can double your learning speed for a fraction of the cost, what exactly are students taking on decades of debt to pay for?

If you listen to Cain, he will tell you that righteous Abel was the problem. If you listen to Potiphar’s wife, she will tell you that righteous Joseph was the wicked man. If you listen to Pharaoh, he will tell you that Moses was an enemy of the state. If you listen to Saul, he will tell you that loyal David was a traitor. If you listen to Haman, he will convince you that Mordecai was a dangerous enemy. If you listen to Ahab and Jezebel, they will tell you that Elijah, the prophet of God, was the troublemaker. If you listen to the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, they will tell you that the sinless Jesus was a blasphemer. If you listen to Judas Iscariot, he will find a way to justify betrayal. If you listen to Pontius Pilate, he will wash his hands while Truth stands directly in front of him. And if you listen to the world, do not be surprised when it calls righteousness evil and evil good. My friends, listen carefully: a lie does NOT become Truth simply because it is repeated loudly, confidently, or by powerful people. Be careful what you hear. Be careful whom you believe. Be careful whom you follow. Test everything by the Word of God. The world may condemn you for standing for Biblical Truth but the only verdict that ultimately matters is His!!! Stand firm. Stand faithful. And above all, listen to Jesus.

As Bob Chapman is fond of saying, “No one wakes up in the morning to go to work with the hope that someone will manage us. We wake up in the morning and go to work with the hope that someone will lead us. The problem is, for us to be led, there must be leaders we want to follow.” - Simon Sinek in Leaders Eat Last

Louisiana just passed a law requiring restaurants to tell customers when their food is cooked in seed oils. Senate Bill 14 covers canola, corn, soybean, and sunflower oil, with the disclosure taking effect in 2028. Kitchens using butter or tallow do not have to say a word. The science on seed oils is still contested, but the case for telling customers what is actually in their food is not. Localize helps you know your food.

"Golden" is so hard to sing that the women who recorded it lowered it two keys the first time they performed it live on Fallon. The song runs from C3 to A5. Three full octaves. And the A5 at the top of the chorus has to come out in full chest voice, a note usually reserved for trained operatic sopranos. The low end is the trap nobody notices. Those verses sit around C3, which is below where most female voices produce any real tone. Drop the key to make the high notes reachable and the bottom of the song disappears entirely. There's no comfortable version. That happened because it was written for a cartoon. EJAE has said the production team asked for big high notes and she wrote them freely, assuming she'd never be the one singing it. Then the director heard her demo and cast her as the voice of Rumi. She built a vocal Everest for an animated character and got assigned to climb it herself. Which explains why this became the most requested Kellyoke ever. A song that humbles nearly every professional who attempts it, handed to the one daytime host who won her career in a live singing competition.
The most requested Kellyoke EVER!! 'Golden' from KPop Demon Hunters 💛

🦔Pflugerville, Texas just killed its Flock Safety contract unanimously after a resident filed a public records request and found 459 outside law enforcement agencies had run 1.6 million searches on the city's 28 cameras in six months. Local police ran 5,078. That's 315 outside searches for every one by Pflugerville PD. The city had told residents nationwide data sharing was turned off. The city manager ordered the lenses physically covered before the council even voted. Pflugerville joins 56 municipalities that have cut ties with Flock in 2026. My Take One resident with a public records form did what the city, the police department, and Flock either couldn't or didn't want to do. That's how thin the oversight was on a system searching 1.6 million plates. Nobody was auditing this. Nobody was checking whether the assurances they gave residents were true. It took a guy filing paperwork to find out. 56 cities have walked away from Flock this year and I think that number accelerates once other communities realize they can file the same request. Flock has $500 million in VC money and contracts in 4,000 cities, and civil liberties groups say under 1% of scanned plates ever connect to a crime. Pflugerville's police chief looked at his own data and wouldn't recommend keeping the contract. Every city still running these cameras is one records request away from finding out what their own ratio looks like, and most of them haven't asked yet. Hedgie🤗
