When we're born, our mothers show us compassion. This is a natural response without which we wouldn't survive. Our lives begin with an experience of kindness and compassion. Mothers’ Day is a good day to remember how important compassion can be.

BREAKING: The US is withdrawing all troops from Afghanistan by Sep 11.
Thousands of American deaths.
100,000+ Afghan civilians killed.
$2,000,000,000,000 funneled to military contractors.
Not one person is “more safe” than when it started.
Let this be an end to endless war.

Here it is. No charge. Unedited. Uncensored. BOWLING FOR COLUMBINE. Sadly, every bit as timely as when we made it. We had provocative ideas about this gun violence and how we might reduce it. It would require us all doing some very “un-American” things:

With @ChickCorea in 1980 @MontreuxJazz. It was almost like a ballet, in a way. It got really crazy, but the audience loved all of that. So I’ll never forget that. That was a monumental memory that I have.

Chick Corea, a singular pianist and composer, passed away Feb. 9.
In his music, Bach and bebop coexisted with Bartók and the blues, Mozart and montunos, Ravel and rumba, Stravinsky and samba, all tempered with a Spanish tinge: bit.ly/3rHVqru

Barely believable but true: #ChickCorea passed away on Tuesday at the age of 79. A full obituary will be on our website soon, but for now here's Tom Moon's piece on the master from our Jan/Feb 2020 issue—sadly, the last interview we'll have with him. #RIP jazztimes.com/features/inter…
