I was waiting for a bus one evening when I noticed a young boy standing a few steps away from me.
He looked about ten or eleven.
He had a school uniform on, but his shoes were badly worn, and he kept looking down the road as if he was expecting someone.
After almost twenty minutes, I walked over to him.
“Are you waiting for someone?”
He nodded.
“My mother.”
“Have you called her?”
He shook his head.
“My phone is dead.”
I asked where he lived, and he mentioned an area I knew wasn't too far away.
“Why don't you just go home?”

There is a story people still tell in my town about a bike man who picked up a woman late one evening.
It was already dark.
The road was almost empty, but the woman stood by the roadside and waved him down.
“Please, take me to the next junction.”
The bike man agreed.
She climbed onto the motorcycle and they started moving.
