Design stems from life. Good design and creativity should be free from limitations.

Who convinced us that modern architecture must always mean white boxes, extensive glazing, parapet roofs and fully paved compounds? Modernity isn't a particular building appearance. We need to rethink this narrative. Design sustainable🌿

The “parapeting” of architecture. Concrete fascia suddenly became parapet and some call it parafet. White became Nigeria exterior colour, wide windows became so slim. Open kitchen is now the trend. All these without regards for green. Concrete architecture.

Environment and climate are among the factors to consider in architecture.

I have been asked, "Must African architecture be reddish brown? Must it?" Look at this hospital in Benin. The color comes from our own soil, and there is plenty of it. This building sits well in its setting, and that is what I have been pushing for. It is the Centre Hospitalier International de Calavi (CHIC), a public level-4 hospital at the top of Benin's health system. It opened in 2025 with three missions: treat, teach and research. Its stated values include care that meets international standards, rigorous safety protocols, qualified teams that combine local and international expertise, and less paper. It is modern, useful and built for real life. It does not borrow a look from somewhere else. A hospital like this does not have to look imported to be world class. More images are in the comments. Climate-responsive architecture isn't an architectural style. It's an approach to designing buildings that respond appropriately to their environmental conditions. And considering Nigeria's climate, it should be fundamental to our architectural practice. Design sustainably🌿

It's high time we, as Ibom people, start rethinking the kinds of houses being built in Ibom land. True sustainable development requires more than just modern construction,it calls for urban planning that reflects our cultural identity and adapts intelligently to our local climate
A house designed for Sokoto shouldn't automatically be identical to one designed for Port Harcourt Different rainfall patterns, humidity levels, temperatures and environmental conditions demand different architectural responses Nigeria isn't one climatic zone DST🌿

It is easier to acquire knowledge than to acquire gear in this present clime. So I’d take the gear🙂‍↔️
I said knowledge is more valuable because gear can be acquired over time, but without the knowledge to use it, the gear means little. Having gear without skill doesn’t make you a better photographer.

In many communities across Africa, you will find able-bodied men and even people who studied architecture or engineering, yet simple water crossings remain sticks or tree trunks pushed across the stream. During the rainy season, these become impassable and people cannot move freely. At the same time, these same communities successfully build stone churches. So the issue does not appear to be a complete lack of skill or strength. Too often, people fold their hands and wait for government. Basic infrastructure like footbridges does not always require heavy state projects. Bodies such as the African Union and its development partners can take clearer responsibility by training men in communities to build these simple, durable crossings using local materials. After such training, communities should be able to hold their own able men accountable if nothing changes. It is difficult to understand why we can organise ourselves to construct churches but struggle with basic bridges that improve daily life and movement.

Building materials like stone (bricks, wood) should be left alone, painting it reduces its visual appeal and beauty.

Entering the Design Week Lagos Student Competition with @Michael_Fola12 just 2 days before the deadline was pure chaos, but we made it to the Top 5 finalists. Facing down stage fright as the first presenter unlocked a new level of character development. 0/10 do not recommend a less than 48-hours crunch ever again ngl.
