When a club is unable to sign an, at the time, relitavely unknown player because the agent asks for too high of a fee. Maybe we've got a problem.
💰🗣️ Brentford owner Matthew Benham: "We could have signed Eberechi Eze for £4m in 2019. We could also have signed Omar Marmoush on a free about three years ago." "We could have signed both for about £4m combined. The summer we got promoted to the Premier League, there was actually two players that scouted amazingly, amazingly well... one was Mudryk which was maybe a bit complicated if we signed, although we were quite close to signing him for a low fee, for about €20m. Eventually, he went for more like €80m." "Then Michael Olise, his scouting was unbelievable, out of this world but we just got promoted and we weren't used to the crazy agent fees in the Premier League at the time." "The agent fee for that one was so insanely high that we stepped away, even though there was part of us thinking 'well, if you combine the agent fee and the transfer fee, it's kind of not too bad,' but the agent fee on its own was just so insane that we stepped away. There's always going to be ones you miss out on." (MIT Sloan Sports Analytics Conference in Boston, Massachusetts via @Football_LDN)

Kylian Mbappé’s diplomatic row with China has intensified after the country’s state broadcaster rejected various apologies for the footballer’s “ill-judged” remarks about Mao Tse-tung. In a dismissal of explanations offered by Real Madrid and La Liga, China Media Group (CMG) – the government-owned media group – doubled down on its vow to stop broadcasting matches involving Mbappé. @Tom_Morgs and @SamJDean for more 👇 telegraph.co.uk/football/202…

Every time I refresh this app there's another Arsenal fan either giving it the biggin that they're winning everything before the game last night or crying conspiracy after it like they do every time they lose. Unbearable collection of people

The experience we had on the pitch yesterday really showed and should be the gameplan from now on. I still think Thiaw and Botman are our CBs for the long run but it was blatantly obvious how much more comfortable the GK, FBs and CMs all were with them two in there #NUFC

why are they obsessed with making things up
The day I concluded that Eddie Howe isn't a top-level coach was Newcastle’s 4-2 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield on New Year’s Day in 2024. The scoreline didn't even tell the full story. Liverpool had 34 shots, 15 on target and an xG of 7.71. Newcastle were being carved open repeatedly, and Martin Dúbravka had to produce a series of saves just to keep the game competitive. But what frustrated me most was how Eddie Howe failed to find a solution when Liverpool’s attacking pressure became overwhelming. Liverpool’s wide forwards kept stretching Newcastle’s back four, Salah repeatedly threatened from the right, and their midfield runners exploited the spaces around Newcastle’s defensive structure. Newcastle couldn’t control the game, couldn’t stop the waves of attacks and couldn’t find a reliable way to protect their defence. Then came the substitutions. Howe took Sandro Tonali off in the 72nd minute, despite his importance in driving Newcastle’s midfield. Liverpool then found even more control in central areas, with Curtis Jones and Mohamed Salah exploiting the space. As a coach, I expected him to keep Tonali on to maintain midfield intensity, bring the defensive line a little deeper to reduce the space Liverpool could attack, and instruct the wide players to track Liverpool’s overlapping full-backs instead of allowing repeated isolations. I would also have tightened the midfield distances, protected the central passing lanes and used quick counter-attacks into the spaces Liverpool left behind. The objective would have been to disrupt Liverpool’s rhythm, reduce the number of clear chances they created and make them work harder to break Newcastle down. Instead, Newcastle conceded four goals. Of course, Liverpool were an excellent side, and no tactical adjustment guarantees victory. But elite management is about recognizing when your original plan is failing and adapting before the game gets away from you. That match reinforced my concern about Howe. He can build an energetic, attacking team, but when the opposition finds a way to overwhelm his structure, he can't adapt. Newcastle fans can testify to this. This is why I don’t want him anywhere near Manchester United. We need a coach who can win the tactical battle, not just a coach who has a good plan when everything is going right.

Genuinely think we're a couple of weeks/months away from a world changing security breach on the internet. I don't think people realise how serious this is.
Whats happening right now is probably way worse than the Hugging Face incident. AI-powered attacks are hitting real organizations while major platforms disclose breaches and critical flaws. - Microsoft reports AI agents targeting hundreds of organizations, reaching privileged cloud access in under three hours in multiple cases. It attributes the ConnectWise compromise to the same group. - CrowdStrike documented four operators running successful AI-agent campaigns. One compromised at least 15 Argentine healthcare organizations. - PHP2Shell: AI helped turn longstanding PHP flaws into working exploits. Cloudflare’s CEO reports millions of exploitation attempts. Their AI involvement is unknown. - Railway disclosed possible access to customer secrets. LiteLLM shipped a backdoored release. Zeabur confirmed another breach and is shutting down. - GitLab patched a maximum-severity flaw affecting 12 years of releases. Node.js patched a serious code-execution vulnerability, with Vercel deploying firewall protections. Feels like a turningpoint.

I've seen three different big publishers all say three different "leading candidates" for the job.
Julian Nagelsmann is expected to be a leading candidate for the Manchester United job if the club decide to sack under-fire head coach Michael Carrick. Telegraph Sport understands that the former Germany and Bayern Munich manager would like the role if a change happens⤵️ telegraph.co.uk/football/202…
