The Orlivka Hoard. #treasurehunting
In 1967, builders in the village of Orlivka, Odesa region 🇺🇦, dug up a bronze vessel at about 30–40 cm deep.
Inside were coins, later handed over to the Odesa Archaeological Museum. The #find consists of a bronze oinochoe (ancient Greek wine jug) and 73 electrum Cyzicene coins minted in the Greek city of Cyzicus. The handle is decorated with masks, one of them the face of Dionysus. Dated to the mid-to-late 4th century BC.
The hoard has 43 different types of Cyzicenes. On the obverse -- gods, mythical creatures, animals, portraits.
On the reverse -- the characteristic incuse square.
