I hate when I start a new show and I can tell from the first few episodes that the actors are still kind of trying to grasp who their characters are & they’re unsure if the show is going to be a success so they’re just doing their best to skate by

I find articles like this hilarious. They're written as though there's this thing happening that we can't explain. Look at the data... quiet quitting is particularly pronounced among Gen Z and younger millennials. Then look at the backdrop to their careers. These people have watched their futures being spent on bailouts, lockdowns and furlough. Even if you work extremely hard and earn promotions (which is far from guaranteed), wages in the UK are so crap, and the cost of living so high, that the rewards often amount to very little. The extra pay can be negligible. The extra effort and responsibility are not. And if you've worked hard, trained and made your way up the greasy corporate pole, there's a good chance you've watched entry-level wages creep ever closer to yours. You might reasonably be asking yourself why you bothered in the first place. Since the pandemic began, the National Living Wage has increased by nearly 55%. If you're someone with years of experience, training, progression and hard work under your belt, and your wages haven't kept pace, why wouldn't you question the value of all that effort? The incentive has been inverted. This is wage compression, and we're now witnessing the second- and third-order effects governments seem so oblivious to. When the financial reward for taking on more responsibility diminishes, so does the incentive to do it. And this is what's happening. People are moving the dial they actually have control over… how much they give a shit about their job. And I don't blame them. I think people are also starting to realise that much of the reward for their hard work is swallowed up by the ever-growing, increasingly wasteful blob that is the British state. It's like having someone sitting on your shoulders, stealing half your food, getting heavier by the day, and repeatedly slapping you around the face as you try to go about your life.

get very good at converting disappointment into ambition. take the pain and make it produce something. get so good at using what happens to you that even your worst defeats become part of how you win.

This is what happens when historical ignorance is accompanied by an astonishing degree of intellectual arrogance. First, there were no “West African countries” during the transatlantic slave trade. The region comprised kingdoms, empires, city-states and independent societies. Applying modern national identities to centuries-old history is an extraordinary display of ignorance. Second, Europeans did not arrive in Africa as benevolent abolitionists. For centuries, they financed, institutionalised and industrialised human trafficking, supplying weapons that fuelled wars and slave raids, creating an enormous market for human captives, and codifying racial slavery into their laws. African collaborators existed, but their complicity does not absolve the European empires that sustained this monstrous commerce. Entire African communities were devastated, populations displaced, villages destroyed and societies destabilised. Millions were deported across the Atlantic, while countless others suffered captivity, violence and death on African soil. Africa was itself a vast crime scene, not merely the departure point of enslaved people. And perhaps the most remarkable historical fraud is how European nations have managed to present themselves as the liberators of the very people they spent centuries enslaving. I grew up in a former French colony in Africa being taught from primary school that slavery was abolished by a Frenchman named Victor Schœlcher. It was only in 2026 ( yes this year ) that I discovered that people in former British colonies had been taught a remarkably similar story, except that their white saviour was an Englishman named William Wilberforce. Yet long before Britain abolished slavery in its colonies in 1833, enslaved Africans in Haiti had fought a revolution, defeated European armies and proclaimed their independence in 1804. Toussaint Louverture and Jean-Jacques Dessalines were central to that struggle. In 1816, Haitian President Alexandre Pétion supplied Simón Bolívar with weapons, ammunition and military assistance to support South America’s liberation struggles, on the condition that he advance the emancipation of enslaved people. And he went on to free more than half a dozen Latin American countries. And what was Haiti’s reward for daring to liberate itself? Diplomatic isolation and, in 1825, a crushing indemnity of 150 million francs imposed by France, effectively forcing formerly enslaved people to compensate the descendants of their enslavers for the loss of their supposed property. Meanwhile, Britain compensated slave owners with £20 million following abolition, while the enslaved received nothing. Where are these stories in the European narratives of abolition? Where are Nat Turner, who led an enslaved uprising in Virginia in 1831, Queen Nzinga, who resisted Portuguese expansion and slave raiding in Central Africa, or the countless African rulers, communities and freedom fighters who resisted enslavement? Black people fought for their freedom. They rebelled, resisted, organised, sacrificed and died for it. Their liberation was never simply a gift bestowed upon them by benevolent Europeans. There is something profoundly tragic about descendants of enslaved Africans, born and educated in the lands of their ancestors’ enslavers, regurgitating sanitised colonial history, seemingly incapable of distinguishing historical scholarship from imperial propaganda. The greatest triumph of colonial indoctrination is when the descendants of its victims become the most zealous defenders of its mythology. What a pity!
If Britain didn’t abolish slavery, West African countries would be selling slaves till this day…. I see the way they often treat their house boys or girls and beat them, I see how they sell out their own family members to bandits by having them kidnapped when they visit from the UK or America.

This is factual and worth knowing and coming to terms with if we are going to understand the rise of far-right sentiment. We are in an asymmetrical propaganda assault on democracy. The Islamophobia, anti immigrant craze is part of a concerted campaign to divide democratic nations. Be aware.

Yo WTF is happening in this world. Is this 2050 yet?
Introducing Reality-Aware Rendering in @Simulon, a completely new way to create with the real world. Place neural assets with your phone and act out the scene. When you stop recording, Simulon renders the take, reading everything in it (what you do, what you say and the place around you), and your assets respond to all of it. The final is regenerated from your recording: a new performance of the scene, not a copy of the footage. Available now on iPhone. Coming to Android soon.
