As the Mayor and deputies tweeted from home, community members came to Portland City Hall and held a press conference rejecting Wheeler’s latest attempts to use their words to divide the Black community.
“Focus on the broken system, not the broken windows.”

ALT 9 Black people mostly age 20-40, some dressed in all black, stand with fists raised in front of Portland City Hall on Saturday April 24th. Some agreed to take a photo after holding a press conference. The speakers roundly rejected Mayor Ted Wheeler’s and PPB’s Friday statement that attempts to use Black people’s words to divide the Black community. The backdrop is City Hall, a place where Wheeler refuses to hold meetings because his pro-police plans can only advance if he silences public input while he and his deputies tweet from home.

Here’s the data on Minneapolis police use of force per week since 2017. It looks like they reduced use of force for a few weeks after killing George Floyd and then *increased* police violence substantially. The systemic problem remains. opendata.minneapolismn.gov/d…

We hear the verdict in Derek Chauvin’s trial is coming shortly.
A reminder: Real justice would be George Floyd being able to return to his daughter Gianna.

In two days we went from $85k to goal to under $40k to goal. All the support is amazing. Help me pass this milestone before earth day and the official 7-year mark of the water crisis.
I'm Mari, a 13-year old from Flint, Michigan where we are 7 years without clean water.
I decided to tackle the water crisis nationally head-on by getting my own water filter to give to those in need of clean water immediately.
My goal is $500k.

The Florida Legislature just passed a bill that criminalizes protesting. For context, if it were law when I was arrested last summer, I would’ve just gotten out of jail last month because there’s a mandatory minimum for protesting. They will hear from us. This fight is not over.

Spain is set to test a 4-day workweek that would give workers 32-hour weeks with no reduction in pay. The government will cover some of the costs for interested companies.
Advocates say it could improve mental health and productivity and lead to a better work-life balance.
