Rescue missions are continuing. Hundreds have already been brought to dry ground. The water will continue to rise in some areas. If you need to get out, call 911. Help will continue as needed. Thank you to all who have showed up to support the efforts.

Rescue teams are working hard across SW FL. More assets and resources are pouring in by the hour. We still have much work to be done, but there is comfort knowing the Calvary is charging in.

South Carolina hasn’t had a landfalling hurricane for 6 years (since Matthew). Looks like #Ian will make landfall near Georgetown but as it approaches water will pile into Charleston Harbor so the warning for 5-7 feet of surge. Look at the flood potential:

Hurricane force winds recorded just south of Charleston on a buoy — hurricane force winds 70 miles from the center so they’ll be on shore soon!
A wind gust to 74 mph (hurricane force) was recently measured by the Edisto Buoy offshore. #chswx #scwx #Ian

My cousin on I-75 to Naples. Miles of ambulances and military vehicles headed to Florida’s Southwest coast. Fiercely praying for the families impacted by Ian.

From early reports - most of Englewood is extremely well supported by local/state resources today. Lots of fire departments, high water trucks, whole line of airboats, and law enforcement officers. First responders seem well in control 👍.

There is likely a strong correlation to cell service outages. After several hours of trying to reach the big three providers, none were willing to share outage maps to help understand connectivity issues with teams on the ground. @att @TMobile @Verizon

Cell service is critical in disaster response. While @Zello performs exceptionally well where most alternatives fail, it still requires a bare minimum signal to stay in contact with teams on the ground. @zello was created for exactly what we use it for, but not knowing (cont)

When teams will be able to communicate again with home base makes planning and routing rescue efforts that much more diff when the duty is already chaotic enough. Public outage maps would be extremely helpful for NGO rescue teams.
