Last week, I swallowed my pride and offered every single one of Dusted’s investors a 1:1 refund on their checks. We had the "leading" SocialFi narrative on @monad. We had the metrics. We had the hype. And...we pulled the plug. Why? A year ago, Dusted’s idea was simple: every token gets a real-time, token-gated, permissionless chat. Me, @_fripon and @onchainss still think it’s a great idea. But ideas are cheap. We fumbled the execution: ❌ 1/ Wrong Unit Economics We burned a fortune to index "dust", hosting empty rooms for coins that died in minutes. ❌ 2/ Trading Focus for Capital So, we needed money to keep things afloat. At the time all we had was a grant, so we spent months building infra for an ecosystem which was not immediately compatible with the long term product. ❌ 3/ Marketing ≠ GTM Our Monad testnet stats looked insane: • 50M+ on-chain txs • massive reach • 10k+ DAUs But as soon as we started user interviews we knew something was off. Generating fees / stable revenue on mainnet was unlikely. We learned the hard way that “used” doesn’t mean “wanted”. June 2025. We hit a wall. - Live on testnet - Burning runway - No monetization path Stuck. Two choices: A) Burn investors money to hype a token, presale, and pray. B) Find a way to actually make money and stay afloat. We chose B and went back to the trenches. We independently started trading news on @Polymarket. Spotted gaps, vibe coded janky tools to fill them, until one of them hit. So, we went down the rabbit hole. We stopped building chatrooms and started building a terminal to win markets. What started as a quickly coded tool now is a suite of tools with AI news-matching, signature-less execution, custom indexing, etc. Momentum was on, life was good. But as we started handing out invites to a private alpha, it also meant having a hard conversation with our angels. "gm, we missed the Monad launch and the products stuck. Do you want your money back?" We felt guilty and ashamed to come back to our investors with a 0% yield on their investment. But to my surprise, most declined the refund and chose to roll their capital into the new vision. We’re insanely grateful for that trust and belief. There's much more to the journey, and we'll explain over time. But I first wanted to let people know what happened to us, why we missed the big launch and take the time to thank @Monad and everyone else for everything they've done for us leading up to this moment. We would have loved to have launched Dusted, but it just didn't feel right to launch a product we knew didn't find PMF just to dump a token. We’re still bullish on Monad, the team, tech and community and look forward to supporting the ecosystem.
