Still the best satirical take on the amadan in the White House.
I wasn’t on the Ballot and if I was, we would have won IN A PLASMA STORM! Thank you for your attention to this matter. President GUL DUKAT #StarTrek #Sisko197

Very sad to hear about Patrick Stewart’s passing. A true gentle giant. I imagine, given his kindness, that it'll turn out more of us have a Patrick Stewart story than you'd imagine. Here’s my little one: Patrick was incredibly kind to me when I was a young parliamentary candidate. He'd been a party member in the area I was standing in, having lived there for years. I'd sent Christmas cards with my contact details and to all the local Labour Party members. Obviously, given the life he led, he moved around a lot, so when a few weeks or months later I spotted a missed call and a voicemail, imagine my shock and awe to hear Patrick Stewart's voice. He’d kindly shared his number so that I could give him a call back because he was keen to chat. I couldn't quite believe it (I still can’t). I was about 20 and it took quite a lot of steeling myself up before mustering up the courage to call him back! And, honestly, the loveliest person picked up the phone. He shared with me how he loved the area and he'd been away a lot, and how he'd have wanted to have helped more if he could. He wanted to thank me for the card and for being in touch, and for doing a brave thing in standing up for the values we shared. He went quiet midway through the conversation and I thought perhaps the line had cut off. But actually, it turned out, it was because he’d spotted a rare woodpecker in his garden. He was full of delight in the sight of it, and was regaling this and his recent sightings of others down the phone to me. What a genuinely lovely, kind, inspirational man. I grew up looking to the stars because of Star Trek — so many of us did. His character displayed leadership to the next generation. Our world has been, and will long be, brighter for having had Patrick Stewart in it. Thinking of Patrick’s loved ones today.

I'm pleasantly surprised with how many I have ticked off here. I had to zoom in to check that Hushinish was definitely in NA before I selected it and I have also been about 900 metres away from ticking off NR.
I've updated my 'have you been to this OS grid tile' map game - I've managed to get to 40 of them, but still need to plan an expedition to the tiny bit of land in OV - try it here automaticknowledge.org/os-10…

I would go slightly further. All assessment deadlines should be between 10am and 4pm in the timezone the university is based, and they should only be on days that core university staff are working. There will be nobody available to help to if the deadline 11:59pm on a Sunday.
Year after year I tried to convince my students that a 5:00 hand-in and a free evening was endlessly preferable to sitting with a paper until 11:40 pm, and year after year they refused to believe me.

I'm looking forward to the railway line to Lewis. A sleeper train departing Stornoway with stops in Lochmaddy, Lochboisdale, and Tobermory before going onward to Glasgow would be fun.
We only need one civilian airport per country. Let's keep Belfast, Cardiff, Edinburgh, and Heathrow. We can close the rest and divert all their subsidy money into better trains.

It could have a nice wee interchange with the Stornoway subway (it can't be called an underground, because then the gentlemen of Stornoway would want to buy their clothes and fishing gear on the train).

I'm not sure what is more alarming here: the low turnout or the maximum membership at the moment being less than 14,000.

It is really important that the two leadership candidates, the deputy leader, and the members of the SEC publicly say this proposal is nonsense and won't happen. I don't think the senior sources involved realise how bad their proposal is.

If Labour aren't going to bother running a candidate in my area, why should I bother being a member? Why should I bother giving up my time to keep the local party running? Why should I donate anything when the central party comes asking for donations again?

This could also lead to random Labour members standing as independents with no obligation to toe the party line. The party couldn't do anything to stop them. Party members could stand as candidates and explicitly oppose the leadership and the official campaign.

"We are fading into the background and the debate between these two men is basically of no interest to the public." Something that very few are willing to admit in CLP meetings.

Last week's epsidoe of #StarTrekStrangeNewWorlds was basically Event Horizon. This week it was basically The Hangover. What's next? Local Hero?

The oldest trophy in shinty was up for grabs yesterday, with @ShintyGMA and @ObanCamanachd facing off in the Glasgow Celtic Society Cup final. GMA took an early lead over their Premiership opposition, but Oban lifted the trophy after an 8-1 victory. #shinty #iomain #camanachd

In Scotland this will include a lot of first year university students, and may impact tools or platforms that include resources for learning. I thought we had heard the last of these notions when the MSP who supported a ‘watershed’ on the internet stood down.

A nice trip through to Edinburgh this weekend to see Camanachd Leòdhais progress to the next round of the Chieftan's Cup against Tayforth Camanachd. Lewis were 4:1 winners in the end after a closely contested match. #shinty #iomain #camanachd #sport #ScottishSport
