Possible Reasons Behind the Pokémon Horizons Production Delay (Unconfirmed Information)
- The anime was originally planned to end at episode 136. However, plans reportedly changed when The Pokémon Company asked OLM to extend the series with a new Generation 10 storyline, expecting the games to release in late 2026.
- Arc 7 was rewritten to accommodate this extension, with early Generation 10 references and teases intended to lead into Arc 8, which would coincide with the new games.
- The production extension was already difficult to manage, as many anime staff members work on yearly contracts. Even the series director reportedly left after episode 136.
- Meanwhile, the Generation 10 games were initially planned for 2026, which also affected the release schedule of Pokémon Legends: Z-A's DLC.
- However, the decision to delay Generation 10 until 2027 was reportedly made much later than expected. This meant the anime's planned Generation 10 storyline could no longer follow the original schedule.
- This forced another major rewrite of Arc 7, removing the Generation 10-related content and requiring changes to scripts, marketing and production plans.
- The Pokémon Company reportedly wanted OLM to extend production once again until late 2027. However, many staff members had already committed to other projects, making another extension extremely difficult.
- As a result, Pokémon Horizons is reportedly expected to stop airing new episodes from around March until October/November 2027, giving the studio time to reorganise production and prepare the final arc of the series, which would introduce Generation 10.
