Actual socialism is fighting for locally owned grocery stores etc (which ime are usually on par with Lidl in terms of pricing but ymmv) and publically owned transport systems to allow ease of access. Socialism doesn’t have to give into corporations just bc it’s convenient.

I’m pretty happy USSR brought my grandmother down from the inhospitable Caucasian mountains and settled her in the plains and then gave her an education, a job, even a hobby (she made her own skin care line) and an amazing apartment in the city of Tbilisi. (Her personality was still a bit harsh like the mountain environment though 😃)
