We’re craving amber because it’s the single most human-friendly color technology can emit at night What we’re really craving is a future where tech is aligned with our biology and respectful of our sensitivity It’s a deeply vulnerable yearning for more attunement, warmth, and care emanating from the devices that make up our world
The world craves amber.

So basically, today PHP got two critical bugs that let anyone run code on your server without even logging in, which is bad, and then the details leaked before the patch was even out, which is worse, and it works on WordPress and MediaWiki and Magento and Joomla and Laravel, and Censys says like 1.5 million servers are running a version with no fix, so the NSA was like "take your system offline," and the FBI was like "take your system offline," and CISA and the UK and CERT-EU were all like "take your system offline," and then the Prime Minister of Japan, the actual Prime Minister, posted at 5:55 in the morning telling 48.8 million people to take their system offline, so everyone took their system offline, like the Dutch cybersecurity agency took its own website offline, and the Dutch parliament went offline, and the Port of Rotterdam went offline, and Finland and France and Denmark started pulling government sites, and Wikipedia went down, and Archive.org went down, and Asana and GOG and Something Awful went down, and the University of Vienna's webmail went down for some reason, and that's just PHP. Because GitLab also dropped a CVSS 10.0, which is the highest score they give out, for a bug that's been there since 2014, so that's every self-hosted GitLab for twelve years, and then LiteLLM 1.107.0 got hijacked and shipped a credential stealer and a remote access trojan in every single wheel and the Docker images, including latest, and you didn't even have to import it, just installing it was enough, and it's the second time this year, and then Railway paused every deployment on the entire platform because someone got into the environment variables, so now everyone has to rotate every secret they've ever stored there, and TiDB Cloud said someone was walking around inside with stolen credentials for basically a month and an extortion group says they took 10.6 terabytes, and Zeabur got breached for the second time in two months and is just shutting down, like the whole company, and Node.js patched remote code execution and a TLS bypass, and CISA says Plex is being actively exploited, and someone took over 300 Tor exit relays to steal SSH passwords, and SafePay ransomware has hit over 600 critical infrastructure orgs, and India's biggest bank filed a data loss incident, and Japan has been in an official state of emergency in cyberspace since October 9, which honestly explains the 5:55 AM post. Oh, and eMudhra, a certificate authority that's issued over 60 million certificates, whose entire job is proving websites are who they say they are, was supposed to be using private keys that are random numbers over a hundred digits long, and one of them was 4. Just 4. And the others were like 66 and 237. Anyway, it's Wednesday.

My WiFi connection here sucks, but here I am, sitting outside in Switzerland using my Mac (which is at home in Germany) on the @daylightco … With good connections on both ends this will feel increasingly native, with all the benefits of the paper-like screen

WiFi/network mirroring is now finally working almost flawlessly with @supermirror_app 3.0 Full keyboard and trackpad input handled, almost no latency It’s so fun to use my Mac on the @daylightco, in a completely different room!!

Funny they’re launching GTA 6 right when we start being able to make it ourselves in like 3 hours
Yesterday, my boys and I vibe coded a game together. They tell me what they want in their game and I prompt it into Opus 5.5 to build it. And of course they picked "Zelda Breath of the Wild" inspired game, where they can explore an open world, do dungeon puzzles, fight mini bosses and a final boss. The twist is that the hero holds a giant paintbrush as a weapon, each color had a different attack and effect (red = fire, blue = ice, yellow = bounce, green = vines). And oh they also wanted to fly on the paintbrush. We spent our whole saturday playing and iterating on the game. It was great fun. I told them, the future is all about Imagination, whatever they can imagine, it will be manifested in a digital experience. At the end of the day, the game had: - 2 biomes (1 island and a bunch of floating islands) - Paintbrush-based combat (4 colors representing different effects and mechanics) - 3 dungeons with puzzles - An undeground cave - Unlockable flying paintbrush when you activate 4 crystals around the island - 30+ enemies and elites - 1 giant boss As you can see in the gameplaye video below, its not the most polished video game but it's so satisfying to see my boys getting bewildered when whatever they asked for, the game is built before their eyes. Of all the games I have vibe coded so far, this was the most satisfying because my boys were actively co-creating it and playing it. This is definitely not the last game we're making together, they have already started brainstorming their next game, hint: "Peak with grappling hooks and TNTs." You can play the game here, works only on desktop: wildbrush.vercel.app/

Puse Wave Modulation (PWM) is probably triggering my chronic migraines. The @daylightco DC-1 has helped tremendously.
Flickering screens (arguably) mess up your dopamine 60fps paperlike screens absolutely are the future of personal computing 5 years from now this will obvious to everyone and we’ll be wondering why we didn’t realize it earlier using my Mac on @daylightco via @supermirror_app

As a former effective altruist, who believed in an ever expanding moral circle, here is why even if you want to care for as many as possible, which I still do, you have to prioritize the local. We could cheekily call it „effective nationalism“. Whatever your theory of change or the good is, its realization depends on your (the moral actors) continual existence (self-maintenance) as well as the ground you stand on that enables your continual existence (family, culture, nation) and affluence from which you can afford to think about such lofty goals. Accordingly even if you have global charitable aims, they are causally dependent on everything local to you. And maintaining this ground is infinitely harder —there is an asymmetry in importance—than being in the historical exceptional position where you might be under the impression that there is such an abundance of resources you can use it to help others far outside the ground you stand on. Effective altruism assumes “everything works and will work and affluence is given and will continue ”, thus far out there ideas are neglected while everything local is already taken care of. I’d argue basically everything is always neglected, never done to a satisfactory degree, barely even satisficed. Civilizational affluence, without an end of history mentality, has always been an outlier and there is no reason to assume anything has changed now. The further away you spend your resources without careful consideration of the costs to your foundation, the more you speed up the deterioration of this local affluence. It’s an entropic force. If you take your affluence for a given in this generation, the ethics of the next one will have to focus entirely on building it back from scratch, and it will likely take more than one if it’s possible at all, some things lost stay lost. The majority of the question of how to use resources ethically will always yield that it is about sustaining the living systems you depend on first, it is the majority of the issue at hand.
Here is Beth Barnes, the Effective Altruist CEO of METR, explaining how immigration controls are immoral, and that future generations will be embarrassed by the past existence of borders. This is who Anthropic wants as the "independent" overseer of all frontier AI models.

meditation might have the worst pedagogy of any field. they solved the cause* and cure** to suffering but hid it behind weird poems and deities * clenching and resistance ** train to not resist, see how you gradually feel way better, see the non-specialness of self-sensations
meditation freaks really messed up when they acted like freaks for thousands of years and failed to communicate some pretty useful information about how they solved psychology

this tweet manages to absolutely slap *and* read like poetry at the same time a feat of human soulfulness channeled through intelligence and righteousness
go fuck yourself @sama claiming that you solved navier stokes because 10000 agents ran in circles for 88hours on a multimillion dollar gpu cluster to formalize in lean a blowup case under controlled external forcing is pure scientific vulgarity the clay mathematics institute millennium prize does not ask m whether you can artificially force a singularity in a fluid by injecting an ad hoc smooth external forcing term f(x,t) to twist the vortex until it breaks the real problem questions the fundamental stability and global smooth existence for 3dimensional incompressible euler & navier stokes equations under natural conservation laws and viscous dissipation alone using a mathematical loophole on forced equations to parade a century old victory is a major conceptual scam Altman technically & epistemologically what you present as an agi breakthrough is nothing more than bruteforce combinatorial autoformalization the ai did not understand fluid mechanics it simply navigated a continuous search space previously mapped out and constrained by the monumental work of human mathematicians like tristan buckmaster/ levent alpöge / diego córdoba or tarek elgindi coordinating 10000 agents to check the logical consistency of a 100 page proof via lean is a software engineering feat and computational parallelization triumph not an intrinsic scientific discovery it is the victory of the compute bulldozer over abstract human intuition repackaged for the public as a higher mathematical consciousness to this theoretical imposture you add a disgusting ethical and industrial cynicism taking advantage of private codex sessions and informal preprints from academic researchers to siphon their research leads and then trying to redact or erase the contribution of levent alpöge under the pretext that he works at rival anthropic is intellectual serfdom openai behaves like a feudal lord of silicon appropriating the cognitive subsistence of independent scholars threatening their careers behind closed doors if they protest and turning community academic labor into a privatized pressrelease this entire staged event serves a desperate financial agenda in a pre ipo panic facing the slowdown of scaling laws and growing investor skepticism over the profitability of foundational models openai needs to manufacture an artificial sputnik moment claiming to solve a millennium prize without immediately submitting the proof to traditional peer review means using the prestige of fundamental mathematics as cheap marketing fuel to inflate a delusional valuation!!! real science is not a clout chase on social media or a compute spike spent to rob the clay mathematics institute it is a quest for elegance physical truth and universal rigor to decode reality true artificial intelligence will not emerge from hostile corporate takeover of academic work hidden behind computational bruteforce but from architectures capable of generating new conceptual paradigms by masquerading constrained formalization as the collapse of physics greatest mysteries you did not solve navier stokes you only proved how far silicon valley will go to prostitute scientific integrity for capitalist spectacle
