🎉 It's finally here! "Govern Differently" is now available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
After years of witnessing school board dysfunction firsthand, I wrote the practical guide I wish I'd had when I started.
This isn't theory—it's a roadmap for breaking toxic cycles and creating healthy, effective school board governance.

This quote by Barry Goldwater is as relevant today as it was in 1960.
"...the Republican platform deserves the support of every American over the blueprint for socialism presented by the Democrats."
We must be the big-tent party, focused on traditional, western values.

Infuriating. Literally choosing failure and to shortchange vulnerable children.
30 years ago, John Stossel asked why San Diego schools weren’t using Direct Instruction to address students’ struggles in reading and math.
The superintendent’s response? Classrooms should be “more than just worksheets and multiplication facts.”
When Stossel pointed out that kids weren’t mastering basic skills, she cited rising graduation rates.
His retort: “You’re graduating them, but they can’t read.”
Fast forward to today, the reflex remains the same: When students aren't academically proficient, deflect to gameable metrics.

This feels like another sign that the center of gravity of our culture is shifting away from families with young children
This is something Acuna could learn from...
How cool would it be if he cared half as much about the Braves as Contreras does for the Brewers?
“Caring is cool. Nonchalance is a cop-out. Pour your heart and soul into what you love. You don’t get unlimited chances. Try hard. Give a damn.”

The non-partisan tax foundation found that high income taxes hurt growth. It’s critical that Colorado voters reject Amendment 87 which would make Colorado the 9th highest taxed state. It’s not to late to vote No on amendment 87
States with no individual income tax (Florida, Texas, Tennessee, Nevada, and others) consistently rank among the strongest gainers, while states with the highest top rates (California at 13.3 percent, New York at 10.9 percent, and New Jersey at 10.75 percent) dominate the list of largest losers.

Your occasional reminder that a state’s obligation is to educate its children. A “voucher” is not at odds with that commitment. It’s a way to meet it.
For the second year in a row, the state has spent over a billion dollars on private school vouchers — despite funding shortfalls for public schools buff.ly/zOpZjK4

Heads up, #CO05
My prediction is that when @killinforco loses, she will sell her house and never be back in the district. Check out this Substack about problems with her "legal" residence. #copolitics

For all its challenges there is no better way to spend your time than investing it in young people.
Georgia high school students stage a fight to bait their principal to break it up, so they could sing him happy birthday.
Lakeview Fort Oglethorpe High School principal Bobby Davis was seen sprinting to the fight to break it up.
After Davis ripped the prank fight apart, the students started singing happy birthday.
"He single-handedly changed me for the better, and he knows I could never take it for granted," said the student who came up with the idea.
"the things he’s done during my time at LFO are truly memories i’d die with. i was so happy to come up with this idea and do it for him."

Get this
In 1949, classroom teachers made up 70 percent of school staff
In 2022, classroom teachers accounted for only 47.5 percent of total school staff
There are more administrators and aids than actual teachers

Finally, Direct Instruction will get its due.
I trust Emily’s reporting because she is curious and smart.
The sophisticated instructional theory that underpins DI is too dense, but don’t skip it.
This account will be the place where I do that work. Feel free to join me.
