Thanks @aaron_epstein and @eve_bouff for having me on the Design Review at @ycombinator and letting me talk about carousel spring animations, grass shaders and some of the new work we’re cooking up in the design studio at @Shopify

A lot of love went into this work across our design teams at Shopify, and a lot of it felt incredibly traditional. Redesigning, uplifting and polishing our core interface. Starring at old screens, removing complexity, layers, colors, strokes and shadows. Simplifying the UI and untangling years of design decisions. At the same time, we are building AI-first interaction patterns through Sidekick (using the latest tools) that can actually help people get work done way faster. That juxtaposition felt kind of perfect. So much of design right now gets framed as “craft vs AI”, but this project was a good reminder that the work is all of it. Proud of everyone who pulled this off.
