Irrespective of what a prisoner has done, a determination on whether they are safe for release should be made by an independent judicial process, not a politician gurning to the gallery and hungry for tabloid acclaim.
Dominic Raab has pledged to keep dangerous criminals in prison “as long as necessary” as he takes powers to block the release of up to 100 murderers, rapists, terrorists and child killers a year. telegraph.co.uk/news/2022/03…

Sadly despite often great dedication by prison officers and the Inspectorate so many of our prisons remain crowded, underfunded, understaffed, and violent. Our prisons are one of the most shameful stains on our common life.
Worrying findings from our inspection at HMP Foston Hall - the first time we have awarded a 1 - our lowest grade for safety for a woman's prison for more than ten years - levels of violence and self-harm were much higher than we see elsewhere. justiceinspectorates.gov.uk/…

A GP has just told me that someone's advance decision to refuse a feeding tube if, as her dementia progresses, she becomes unable to eat and drink, is "euthanasia", unethical + unlawful. I can't believe we're STILL having these kinds of discussions.

"At the moment the legal position on assisted dying, as the courts have remarked, is very messy." Only Parliament can clean up this mess. The Assisted Dying Bill would enshrine compassion and protection into law. thetimes.co.uk/article/assis…

"It’s now 18 months since Cathrin died in a hospice and I am still haunted by her death: for her and for other terminally ill people I believe the assisted dying act would have afforded dignity and peace. Cathrin had neither of these.” Read more: dlvr.it/S8855c

Fantastic presentation by @sandbergrlaw at @ReformFamily calling for an Intimate Relationships Act overhauling out-dated marriage formalities and introducing cohab reform. Great, thought-provoking response by @MarkHillQC too.
