Chickens coming home to roost. For over 20 years, @URealists criminologists argued that from local drug distribution to the global corruption of the corporations and the Epstein class, crime/harm were not in overall decline but mutating into more sophisticated forms. We were happy to accept that some traditional crimes were declining, yet we were still denounced by the UK's number-crunching neoliberal apparatchiks as 'crime decline deniers'. We warned that the expanded surveillance and incarceration behind much of the actual decline were not long-term fixes. We also warned that the police and criminal justice system, recruited into paramilitary political repression and identity politics posturing, would be unable to cope with the accelerating mutation. We were unerringly right, but our research and theoretical framework barely figured in the major textbooks. Rowley's 'reforms' will just be more sticking-plasters. Forget politics and structural socioeconomic change - as long as we remain liberal, tolerant and anti-authoritarian, everything will work out fine. Let's not assume that economics is the only social science discipline suffocated by neoliberalism's Panglossian end-of-history thought control. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cvgl…

The collective derangement of the British political-media class is quite something
Proud to announce that students in England will be able to study Ukrainian at GCSE. It’s a chance for pupils to explore Ukraine’s rich culture and history and, for the Ukrainian community to remain connected to their heritage. This is another step in our enduring support for Ukraine as part of the 100 Year Partnership 🇺🇦🇬🇧

We're sending this lot money and weapons, we helped to organise a coup on their behalf and we threw a spanner into the peace negotiations. The British political/media class are worthless ghouls.
A torture chamber of Zelensky was uncovered near Kiev, where over 40 mobilised men were held captive by Ukraine's National Guard. The youngest victim was reportedly just 14 years old. There is now great outrage and riots in Ukraine against the henchmen of Zelensky and NATO.

Yes, staff do find him intimidating, along with his other fetishwear visible even in Zoom meetings. His arch “ignore the double eyebags” message is disingenuous narcissism.
I may have been the first journalist to approach Oxford University for comment on photographs of Matt Rattley appearing to wear giant prosthetic breasts in academic settings - images he has posted online himself. Why? This is one of the world's leading universities FFS. Speaking as a woman, as well as a journalist, these images raise questions for me. Clearly, I cannot establish someone’s motives from photographs, and I am not claiming to know his. But these are the questions these images raise for me: - Is there a sexual or fetish element to this presentation? - Has the university considered whether staff or students could experience it as sexualised, uncomfortable or intimidating? - What standards apply to sexualised presentation in academic settings? - Do students and staff feel free to raise concerns, given the power imbalance between a lecturer and students? - Have any complaints been made, and if so, how were they handled? We do not need to know someone’s private motives to ask about the effects of their conduct at work. These strike me as entirely reasonable questions about a university’s responsibilities to its students and staff - and therefore matters of public interest. Yet I haven’t seen them examined in any mainstream reporting. Why? _______ P.S. If you’re a student or member of staff with information or concerns, my inbox is open. I’ll treat messages in confidence [email protected]

Pretty grim stuff from an estate in South London where a housing association sold the homes to a property management company which is now attempting to push through evictions and convert the houses to HMOs

In the very first issue of the journal @LindseyAGerman interviewed @bureaucatliu intellectdiscover.com/conten…
Well said @bureaucatliu! Political movements cannot be controlled by trying to cater to everyone’s individual feelings, shaming and cancelling people when they are not affirmed. I know that might sound harsh (because we should interpersonally of course care for each other), but we are trying to build collective power to take on a violent and oppressive economic SYSTEM. It is part of the same stifling culture of ‘no debate’ etc. These attitudes produce cliques-not powerful robust movements. There is nothing radical about this kind of behaviour. Tiny cultish type organisations have tried to cancel me for saying things like this 🤣

This person thinks they hold progressive ideas -oh dear !! 'Socialism for the old and capitalism for the young' - I think he needs a lesson in politics before he says anything else
Burnham would be entirely right to scrap the extortionate and unpredictable triple lock. Socialism for the old and capitalism for the young isn’t sustainable and we need a fairer generational settlement. arguably.uk/p/how-burnham-ca…
