Agree completely!
In 1960, doctors told Édith Piaf she was gravely ill. She was told to rest. But her beloved L’Olympia theatre in Paris was facing bankruptcy. A few weeks earlier Charles Dumont and Michel Vaucaire had brought her a new song: ‘Non, je ne regrette rien.’ She heard it once and claimed it as her own. On December 29th, “the little sparrow” walked onto the stage, motionless in her black dress, and sang with unforgettable conviction. That night she saved a theatre. Frail in body, indomitable in spirit, she remains one of the greatest singers of all time.

Christopher Wood was fond of flowers as a subject, and this painting from 1925 (influenced by van Gogh) shows a degree of maturity by which his pictures from this period were characterised. This work also reveals his understanding of colour and harmony.

A terrific novel!
Someone just alerted me that my best-selling novel Sugar Money is only 99p on Kindle at the moment. Here's a review, and a link to buy. Shortlisted for the Wilbur Smith Adventure Prize and the Walter Scott Prize and topped the Times best paperbacks list. amazon.co.uk/Sugar-Money-Jan…

I love Jane Austen, but for pity's sake STOP ADAPTING HER. Her novels have been done to death. There are many other unfilmed authors to do instead. Burney, Edgeworth, much of Trollope. Non-Hannay Buchan. Most of Wilkie Collins. If you like Regency romance, Georgette Heyer.
