it's kind of funny how Bryan Johnson specifically is a stock character. like GD's ad uses the Longevity Rich Tech Guy archetype, a known mythological role in modern folklore, but this archetype is specifically Bryan Johnson in particular

There is something really concerning (and disappointing) going on in the US right now. A dangerous and preventable situation. Let me explain. nextstrain.org/avian-flu/h5n… 1/

Very confused by what people expect me to do when they say "hold on a second". Have you ever tried to hold on a second? It's freaking impossible! Seconds keep happening one after the other no matter what you do!

i feel so emotional -- it's like these are made for me -- main pdf reading in pdf reader top-left, google doc and auxiliary google search top-right, codex + obsidian down below, gpt voice running in the background at <$3/hour, sony xm4s blasting music, fully blinkered, no physical-world distractions, aaaaaah. im tweeting to u guys from behind my xreal glasses rn!!! sorry, xreal monitor is like standing desk and monitor all-in-one!!! sooo good for work-life separation also :o it's this general trend of bringing environment optimization inwards, the *afferent impulse*, get more done in-house; blackout curtains -> myhalos sleep mask, monitor+standing desk -> xreal glasses, p100 respirator -> immune-computer interface next?

Relatedly, I tried careful repeat “low megadoses” of every vitamin, mineral, and electrolyte in chronometer and then several more not in chronometer, interleaving different micros in different orders according to taste and intuition. I kept track numerically to stay well below toxic levels. It took a lot of time and money and attention (because the fillers and flow agents in lots, though not all, supplements are bad). I found an extreme metabolic bottleneck on vitamin k1 (not k2), of all things. Plus my “nutrient intuition” became much, much better, and I still irregularly “low megadose” various things during activity/metabolic/environment regime changes for great benefit.

Food intolerance is common. Some estimates suggest it affects around a sixth of the U.S. population. The medical system considers it “of personal but not clinical significance.” In the worst case, you can permanently disabled by it, though... meaningness.substack.com/p/e…

I have something to announce. We ran a study to compare the jhānas to 5-MeO-DMT. This was an ambitious undertaking by the Qualia Research Institute @QualiaRI , friends and collaborators. For practically all of May and June, a group of handpicked extraordinary people gathered in Tepoztlán, México: physicists, psychologists, neuroscientists, phenomenologists, advanced meditators, meditation researchers, philosophers of mind, and visual artists specializing in psychedelic replication. It span over two dozen participants and eight weeks: instrument building, ten days of jhāna practice across three meditation sites, a week of 5-MeO-DMT, and then time to integrate and putting the pieces together to figure out the puzzle of consciousness. We're now releasing the first tranche of what came out of it ♥️ Here is an example output: every animation we rated (comparing J1 and J3), in a tool where you can visualize the affinity of each animation to any two pairs of specific jhāna states and/or 5-MeO-DMT dose levels. heart.qri.org/retreats/2026-…

We also ran a Jhāna Visualization Contest, to which anyone could submit entries before the retreat. Participants rated every entry against each jhāna they had reached, with each rater's own entries excluded. And we judged the judges! After the meditation retreat, two advanced meditators independently interviewed each participant, and we used their assessments to decide which jhāna ratings to count at all. Symmetric Vision @VisionSymmetric won, with all eight jhānas from two perspectives at once: heart.qri.org/retreats/2026-…

I have had recent success reducing my benzodiazepine tolerance with an obscure medication called flumazenil. I have been using Ativan/lorazepam once a week for seven months, and it has been a lifesaver for me. It is the only intervention that reduces my severity enough to migrate to the couch for a couple of hours, shower, and have a friend visit. But despite using it on a weekly frequency that all medical sources swear is impossible to develop tolerance, I did (this seems to be more common for people with chronic illness). My first 0.5 mg dose was paradise - it lasted roughly 40 hours and muted symptoms so they were almost completely absent. But as of recently, even a doubled dose of 1 mg was lasting only around eight hours and providing substantially less PEM shielding. Then I heard about flumazenil. Its mechanism of action is that it occupies GABA-A receptor sites, which can help reverse some of the neuroadaptations associated with benzodiazepine exposure. Researchers at the University of Western Australia studied prolonged flumazenil administration for benzodiazepine dependence, with studies reporting reductions in use and withdrawal symptoms. A 1991 study also reported prolonged effects after IV flumazenil in three patients who had developed clonazepam tolerance. I don't have IV access, so I decided to try the DIY sublingual version. I obtained injectable flumazenil from IndiaMart ($20/day) and on two separate days between lorazepam doses, dosed 0.1mg of the vial fluid sublingually every hour on the dot for 5 hours, attempting to approximate the slow exposure of a continuous infusion. There were no real side effects, though I did feel a bit on edge. Amazingly, for the last three weeks, lorazepam is now working much more like it did when I first started. I am again getting roughly 22-28 hours of effectiveness, along with excellent PEM shielding and symptom mitigation. Obviously, this is an n=1, but I think it warrants further informal trials!

pop buddhism will say desire is the root of suffering and meditator nerds will say no actually it’s more precise to say tanha is the cause of dukkha but it’s really more like “it turns out that if you look really closely (helpful to have some amount of concentration and relaxation) then you notice that you’re doing a certain kind of clenching like 10 times a second and you notice it feels bad in a certain way but it’s such an automatic reflex that it’s kinda hard to stop doing it but over time you do eventually do less and less of it and you go through these radical surprising improvements in certain aspects of mental wellbeing (you might even say poetic things like whoa now i feel like i am held in gods hands 24/7 and it was all about accepting the present moment and letting go and now i feel radically better but also interestingly i still have lots of normal emotional issues and im still a normal human in many ways but i feel radically fundamentally okay now in a way that just wasnt shining through before) — and idk why it’s like this but yeah it seems to be reproducible bc u kinda hear very similar stories from everyone who has spent thousands of hours deliberately training specific mental skills to get better at increasingly subtle versions of accepting the present moment (i.e. what u might call an advanced meditator)”

bro there was The Caterpillar, the angel haniel, and the Cube World where infernal mechanical serpents rotated through me and the flakes of the fractal were hard and sharp like lucifer's pride. and there was a world where my existing imaginary headcanons of people just got agency generatively did their thing and it was like a palladium afterparty in my head. and another where it was slowly revealed that an element in my then-boyfriend that deeply fascinated me was really this facet of My Dmt Entity and i saw the n-dimensional transformation/shape rotation of my boyfriend (who was appearing as one of the dmt elves at that time) into my psychedelic entity haunting me in nearly every psychedelic trip and definitely every lsd trip. (an entity that was, way later, also revealed to be The Caterpillar). and another trip — because of the way i try to navigate the trips by imagining myself talking to dmt-me (the part of me that creates the trip, that is not me), well this particular trip happened a few months into the process — i found myself with another mind sharing my mind, like a tulpa, but the other mind is me, the dmt-me, who thought back at me, and i could feel her affect and her presence. well my greatest success with controlling my dmt trips had been to imagine myself prompt engineering the part of me that's driving the trip that i don't identify as me. and my visuals slowly disappeared, and one trip i noticed that my dmt "room" is almost empty of visuals (a couple trips ago i was offered to put a desk in that room, so i can do work), and thought "it's like dmt stopped pretending". and then it's like dmt really stopped pretending, it just gave up, the remaining fractaline visuals faded away. nowadays dmt is completely pliant and just lets me do what i want and helpfully provides synesthesic and metaphorical mappings i explore at my leisure. almost no visuals except minor synesthesic flickers. (even when accounting for tolerance, and sometimes i do go without for a substantial amount of time)

My multilingual vocabulary test (15 languages, 10 words each) now shows your centile relative to site norms too. I managed to get to 90th, mainly failing on Uralic languages. I'm sorry to the Finns and Hungarians, I am never going to learn your languages. Too much work! taketest.xyz/multilang-vocab

it’s consistently astonishing how many people are walking around carrying some earth-shattering grief or heartbreak and still somehow getting up, making breakfast, answering texts, loving people, making things, putting one foot in front of the other. the human spirit really does have hands

Be curious about consciousness. That's not curious enough. No, that's nowhere near the level of curiosity the topic warrants. Mmmm, still not nearly curious enough. I think you're missing the point, tbh. Nope, still not curious enough.
