I opened the box form @DHH and it's the Dell XPS 14 with @omarchy loaded on it! Set up was very easy, fast and flawless, I think it took less than a minute on first opening it Omarchy asks you lots of questions to set it up for you, kind of like an onboarding, but not in an annoying way like Windows would do these days with too many useless questions, every question here makes sense It sets up your Git and your AI agent of choice like Codex, Claude Code or OpenCode Everything worked flawlessly with no bugs at all, really smooth Then you're inside, and you see the famous Omarchy wallpaper, and then it gets a bit hard (for me at least) because I had to figure out the shortcuts Luckily @jankeesvw helped me figure them out but I'm still learning I'll be setting up my SSH to my VPS servers so I can work from there. And also I'd like to see if I can use Claude Code to customize Omarchy to my own liking, like generating my own apps etc. I'll report back! Part 2 of the video is in the reply (after I fixed the power)
Got a package from @DHH 🫨

It's been 12 years since I last updated Quick Resizer, a Mac App that... quickly resizes images. I built it because I hated waiting 10s or so to launch Photoshop just to scale an image for my blog. I let Claude fix 3 bugs and port it to Swift (under my guidance), and it's now hit 2.0, and works better than it ever did before (and waaaay faster on modern Apple Silicon). Plus it still runs on Intel, at least macOS 13+! It's still $0.99 as it always was: apps.apple.com/us/app/quick-… And now I can again stop launching Photoshop's monstrous husk of an app just to scale down photos for my blog.

We asked everyone to join us in building open-sourced apps. Seemed fair to go first. A few of us built OPENjutsu as a side project. It’s fully open source, so it’s as much yours as it is ours. Run it on Comfy, run it locally, or plug in a paid model if you want higher quality. Your #OpenSourceHiggsfield submissions are due October 30.

The @mybmc urges residents in Mumbai, Thane and Bhiwandi to boil water for 7 days: BMC has completed repairs to Compartment 2 of the Yewai Master Balancing Reservoir at the Pise-Panjrapur water complex. The compartment will be commissioned on Wednesday, October 28. As the process could affect water quality, residents in parts of Mumbai city, the eastern suburbs, and areas of Thane and Bhiwandi supplied by the BMC have been advised to boil and filter drinking water for the next seven days.

Refunds received on credit cards now get transferred straightaway to bank account. Interesting. I think this has been around for a while and some RBI rule that credit cards cannot hold credit balance.

Micron detailed the memory and storage chips it plans to bring to market through 2030 in its latest report. Some revelations from the deck > A single HBM4 memory stack moves 2.8 TB/s, so the memory inside roughly 13 top AI GPUs, at 8 stacks each, matches the world’s entire international internet capacity of about 282 TB/s. (Attach slide 12, “HBM4 vs. worldwide internet bandwidth”.) > Memory per Nvidia GPU grew 3.6x from the H100’s 80GB to the B300’s 288GB, and Micron estimates AI context length is growing 30x a year. A robotaxi needs over 10x the memory of today’s driver-assist car. (Attach slide 5, “Each wave of AI increases memory demand”.) > Micron plans “vertical HBM” by 2028, stacking memory directly on top of the GPU rather than beside it, which shortens the data path and yields more AI output per watt; Micron calls the dates targets. (Attach slide 20 for the simple picture, or slide 22 for the 2026 to 2030 roadmap.) > AI agents that write and check chip logic, plus AI-written firmware, cut Micron’s time to finish an SSD controller design by 50% and to ready an SSD for customers by 60%, based on 2 internal programs. (Attach slide 27, “AI makes Micron 2x faster”.) > After over 20 years studying a denser DRAM cell layout called 4F², Micron has abandoned it as too costly and complex, splitting from SK hynix and Samsung, which are pursuing it, and will build DRAM upward in 3D instead. (Attach slide 16, “DRAM roadmap”.) > Micron is designing flash storage that GPUs can read directly in tiny chunks, plus HBM-style stacked flash beside the accelerator, to hold model weights and the working memory of long AI conversations, targeting 25M to 100M operations per second. (Attach slide 24, “AI-class NAND”.) > Micron fits over 1,500 memory capacitors across the width of a single 50 µm human hair, and each DRAM wafer now holds over 400x more bits than in 1995, across 22 manufacturing generations. (Attach slide 9; slide 11’s Porsche comparison works as a companion.)

The EDF (Export Declaration Form) rules are now in effect, and it seems like RBI and banks have conspired to create a new hell. Or actually 5 hells. I consult for an American company. Raised October invoice. Received the Inward remittance. And bang! Mail from @HDFC_Bank detailing everything needed before the payment can be processed. Let me tell you what the 5 hells are: 1. The hell of confusion – RBI clarified last month that the EDF rules do not apply to individuals. But looks like they haven’t told the banks. And CAs also don’t seem to know. There’s no official communication on who is exempt. Last I checked, I was an individual. No company, no LLP. But HDFC still wants me to file the EDF to credit my payment. 2. The hell of complexity – See the attached pic of the form the bank has sent in excel. It has 5 sheets. To be filled and submitted. Some abstruse acronyms like “AD” - no clue what it means. Some fields are mandatory. Some fields are to be filled by the bank. No idea which is what. And it needs a physical signature. Which leads to... 3. The hell of paperwork - They also sent a pdf with a bunch of request letters. I’m supposed to choose the right letter, print, sign, scan and submit. Creating more paper today is incredibly silly. And, I suppose, someone in the bank will have to upload all this somewhere. Reminds me of those hand-filled immigration forms. Pointless. 4. The hell of repetition – At least for me, most of the details are constant. One client, one payment. If it’s a one-time exercise, fine. I’ll grit my teeth and get it done. But no. These details have to be given month after month. Else… no payment will be credited. 5. The hell of unpreparedness – It would have been simple enough for RBI or HDFC to create an online portal for this. With dropdowns, saved formats, contextual help, etc. to at least make this easy. But that would be too convenient, no? So, they’ve chosen to dump the entire burden on the taxpayer. I have no opinion or understanding of why this is needed. Maybe it is critical information. Okay! But why make the process so confusing and painful? And poor communication has meant that the banks have just passed on the pain to the exporter, and even CAs can’t help. Basically RBI & HDFC feel I should consult less, and comply more. Maybe my client will also agree :)

I'm not longer able to add my @Outlook account to the @gmail mobile app. It goes through the login and 2-step flow successfully and then shows an 'unable to authenticate' pop-up. Anyone know how to resolve this? I don't want to use the Outlook app for my personal email account. – at Mumbai, India

And they have arrived in India ! Goosebumps ! The Amur falcons are back in Manipur, 11 days after leaving northeastern China. After all those moving dots we watched across continents and oceans, how lovely to know they are here again. And any guesses why they stop here? Yes, the termites ! As the monsoon retreats, winged termites emerge in enormous swarms across Manipur, Nagaland and neighbouring areas. Our tiny travellers arrive just in time for this feast, rich in the fat and protein that will help carry them to Africa. And what appetites ! Researchers estimate that a million Amur falcons can eat around two billion termites in just over a fortnight. Imagine that: an ocean crossing made possible by insects so small we barely notice them. For the next two to three weeks, they are expected to feast and rest in Tamenglong, watched over by communities who eagerly await their return. Then comes the leap that will have us holding our breath again: nearly 6,000 km to Somalia in around six days without landing, including some 3,000 km over the Arabian Sea. Come along. Our tiny superbirds have so much more to show us as Dr Suresh and team @WII track their incredible journey. @byadavbjp @moefcc @sureshwii @wii_india #AmurFalcons #BirdMigration #AmurFalconMigration
India, watch out for the incredible Amur falcons' journey again ! Remember Apapang, Alang and Ahu, the tiny falcons whose extraordinary journeys have kept so many of us watching and wondering ! Now they are back on our maps. Dr Suresh of the Wildlife Institute of India tells me both are still transmitting, while Ahu stopped transmitting last year. Apapang and Alang stayed in northeastern China longer than he had expected this season. Apapang and Alang have now begun their southward journey and are expected to reach Manipur around 20 October. For the past one year, we have been following these remarkable travellers across countries, continents and oceans. Somehow, seeing a familiar name transmitting again feels like hearing from an old friend. Come along ! Lets get ready to be stunned by this miracle of nature once again #AmurFalcons @sureshwii #BirdMigration @wii_india #AmurFalconMigration
