It's enterovirus 71 season. Probably back with a vengeance.
In Malaysia, 47,209 cases of hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) have been recorded for 20 weeks from the beginning of 2022.
This number is 20 times larger than that for the same period in 2021 (2,237 cases).
It's inordinate, too.

one huge positive of 2020. #afm has not reared its ugly head. #acuteflaccidmyelitis
Defying predictions that 2020 would see the highest spike yet in cases of #acuteflaccidmyelitis (#AFM), the confirmed case count through October is the lowest since 2015. Neurologists attribute the unexpected decline to the #COVID19 lockdowns. bit.ly/3fyPGeR

Every two years, doctors in the U.S. see a spike in cases of a rare, polio-like condition in kids called AFM. But some are hoping Covid-19 social distancing measures will also limit the spread of the virus that likely causes the condition. buff.ly/3j6AhUt

As a doctor, a scientist, and epidemiologist, I can tell you with 100% certainty that in most states with an increase, it’s a real increase. It's not more tests—it's more spread of the virus. nyti.ms/3gboH8g
