The first house project that I started learning from, from foundation when I was in 300L would insha Allah be completed soon and I am happy about it bcos almost everything about the project includes my idea. I acted as site engineer and did the interior, can’t wait to post🙂‍↔️

I casually applied for the position of Assistant General Manager in a top oil and gas support services company here in Port Harcourt. I can’t even remember when I applied, but I was shortlisted, interviewed, passed the first stage, delivered a PowerPoint presentation on a real-life problem-solving scenario, and subsequently went through a physical interview. I passed all the stages, and today, I received a Contract For Service. I went through the offer and noticed that the job is a one-year contract, subject to renewal. But damn, the salary is mouth-watering! There are also leave allowances, other allowances, and benefits like an official car, a driver, and so on. Here’s the dilemma: I currently work with one of the biggest oil firms in the country. Although this Assistant General Manager position is a step up from my current role and comes with significantly better pay, but it is a contract appointment. What happens if they decide not to renew the contract after one year? By then, I would have resigned from my current job, and I could find myself out of work. 😂 But damn, the money is huge! I’ve been a bit indecisive about it since I received the offer today, and I still have until 9 November 2026 to respond. The only positive I can confidently take away from this so far is the confidence boost. I know I’m good at what I do, but I honestly never imagined I had reached the career stage where I could be considered for an Assistant General Manager position. For context, that is the fourth-highest position in the organisation, after the Chairman, Managing Director, and General Manager. Now, I’m torn between taking the risk and staying with the security of my current job. The money is tempting, the position is a significant career leap, but the uncertainty is real. What would you do in my position? Would you take the risk or stick with the more secure job?

Making this post coz I was given the same name ‘JOSHUA’ as well.. So i’ll share something… I remember one time growing up.. Can’t remember the exact age(should be around 10 - 12) Asked mumc what my English/middle name was(I think it was called Baptismal name) and she said JOSHUA Bro, as young as I was.. I rejected it. I asked her what my other Yoruba name was and she said ‘Adebayo’… I picked the Adebayo instead(even when it was quite fancy to have at least one english/biblical name at the time) Now i’m not even trying to form that i’ve been woke from birth or whatever.. Whatever was going on in my head that made me not adopt a name outside a Yoruba name at that very young age, I do not know.. I just know that.. In my family I’m the ONLY ONE that has 3 Yoruba names as my full name(on all official documents).. Others have an english/a biblical/baptismal name as middle names.

My twin sister experienced a similar situation in Ibadan. She made it clear that her business was registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and that she didn’t need to belong to any association to operate. Interestingly, her decision began to open other members’ eyes. One after another, association members started registering their businesses with CAC and leaving the association, realising they could operate independently without being subjected to the association’s control. Some of the executives eventually came back to beg her to stop telling their members about her CAC registration whenever they visited her shop because it was encouraging more people to leave the association. Apparently, my sister’s defense has empowered some of these members especially younger ones to understand their rights and break free from a system they had come to believe was compulsory. That’s when they stopped branching her shop.
