Speed is king
In Mahomes' rookie season, the average 40 yard dash time for 1st round linebackers and edge rushers was 4.72s. In the last draft it was 4.51s. #SpeedIsTheTide

It’s also harder to get parents and athletes to buy-in to the fact that improving movements and strength have a higher upside for sport skills to improve than just doing the sport skills alone.
Coaching the average MS/HS athlete how to properly squat 10 years ago was a lot easier than it is today. I will also throw skipping, hopping, push ups etc.. into the mix. Its wild how many MS/HS kids have Coordination, mobility restrictions. We live in an era with skill development being shoved into kids faces 24/7 all while BASIC Physical literacy baselines are not being met. Then we ask ourselves why injury rates are going up.

Unfortunately, the high school game isn’t much different.
Just a reminder… Before you copy and paste everything these teams do, remember… these teams have the best players money can buy. It’s like an NFL team with all first-round draft picks. It’s a rigged game. You could almost base NCAA rankings on payroll instead of wins.

This is how I got my S&C/Ftball opportunities as well. I was a unpaid graduate volunteer working for Pete Bommarito for 5 months unpaid. Showed up, added value, led to a paid job. This led to more opportunities at St. Thomas Aquinas in Lauderdale: sometimes, this is the way.
Mike Macdonald reveals that before he got into the NFL he spent 2 years begging Georgia for a job, he would show up to their football offices everyday asking for an opportunity, then eventually just took out a loan to work for free “I kind of weaseled my way onto the Georgia staff. It took two years. Every Tuesday for about two years, I had a hole in my schedule, so I’d go over to the building. It was always inevitably during Coach Richt’s staff meeting.” “I’d sit outside and read the NFL list and try to memorize all the Dawgs in the NFL until Joe T got out, and I would just try to pepper him for an opportunity.” “Finally, right before I graduated, they let me come aboard. So I took out a big loan and got an apartment and went to work. I joke I was the first graduate student assistant. There were graduate assistants that got paid. I was a graduate student acting as a student assistant.” “I was working for free. I was volunteering. But I was just like, ‘You know what? I’m just going to do what the guys do. No one’s going to know the difference.’” “I’m just going to go to work, and I want to be the go-to guy. It took me a couple years to get there, but that was the goal.”

Coming soon! It is crazy to think "personal projects" of mine turn into a business. I have never sought out to create businesses. Instead to simply solve problems I have with coaching and then duplicating it so other coaches can benefit.

The fall started 9/17/2005 when Moeller traveled to Findlay High School with dozens of d1 recruits and got stomped by the Trojans.
Moeller athletics has long been the standard for Division I sports in Ohio — especially Southwest Ohio But at some point, you have to ask the question… Has Big Moe fallen off? St. X bullied them last year: • Knocked them out of the football playoffs • Knocked them out at state in baseball Now Princeton — a program that hadn’t beaten Moeller in nearly 35 years — opens the 2026 season by taking down the Crusaders So the question remains for the home of Ken Griffey Jr., Barry Larkin & Cameron Junker… Has Moeller fallen off, or has everyone else simply caught up?

Bingo. Jogging around a building yelling “let’s go!” at the younger, overweight kids does not build culture or a winning team. Holding them accountable for showing up, working hard; and knowing their assignment does.
Must condition all summer to prepare for the conditioning test. But, the conditioning test does NOT reflect the sport. The chasing of toughness via fatigue in the first and second week causes injuries and detrains athleticism. Burning the steak has long term effects.

One of my FAVORITE drills… because it mimics running and gets our body to memorize mechanics. 👏🫶🙌 Remember: drills equal running form ✅✅✅

Athletes are getting longer rest periods. This is crucial for sports needing event-to-event recovery and for those with intense practice schedules. Smarter recovery leads to better performance. #AthleteTraining #Performance

Tracking progress is important. If athletes don’t know if they are improving, they might lose interest. These⬇️ athletes have one thing in common…they show up with a growth mindset. Those that have not been consistent, have not seen much improvement. Funny how that works.🤷

As a coach, we can’t just DEMAND high-quality work, we must intentionally engineer it. You can’t perform on a base of high-volume fatigue. Tired is the enemy.

Pete Bommarito used to preach about the art and science of coaching. Using these things is the science. Integrating them into your training program is the art.
Stop thinking in percentages or velocity alone. The sweet spot for training is where both meet. It's not one extreme or the other; it's the balanced integration. #FitnessTech #TrainingTips

The most effective training isn't generic; it's custom-built for the situation and the coach's capabilities. Tailored programs yield the best results. #Fitness #Coaching

Same goes for Floor Press. Several reasons it can be a good change up. Yet, some won’t do it because the think it makes it “easier”🤔
2-Board Press Why do we use it? ✅ Builds stronger lockout strength✅ Allows athletes to handle heavier loads safely✅ Reduces shoulder stress compared to full range benching✅ Improves bar speed and force production✅ Great option for in-season athletes #cedarcreststrong 💪

An easy way we use the Vertimax. Skater jumps. Light bands can work as well. A slam ball adds to the challenge.

This is l what I mean when I say that losing coaches love hard work. Useless practice where no one gets better? Well that doesn’t feel very good. Ending useless practice with “conditioning” so that you can equate tired with having accomplished something? Way easier on the ego.
We’ve got a kid that came in last semester and was, respectfully, not fast. Yesterday, he hit a 0.99 fly 10 and is consistently a 20 MPH guy now. He was telling me his old school ran fifty (50) 110’s first day of summer. You CAN train speed. You can also train to be slow.

The @CoachStokowski chart remains undefeated as a great 40 predictor. Fly 10 from 30-40. I hand timed the 40. Guy 1: 0.99 4.84 0.99 4.88 1.02 5.00 Guy 2: 1.03 5.05 1.03 5.00 1.03 5.03
