"Unlike previous voucher schemes I’ve strongly opposed, the new federal choice program may provide much-needed additional revenue for public schools." - @joshcowenMI NEW: Link below.

I dare say this will go up there with the Catholic Priests, Boy Scouts, and Gymnastics scandals. How is it 2026 and we still cannot protect our children from harm?
"The first five years of records were secured only after a lawsuit was filed against Boston Public Schools in Suffolk Superior Court by a freelance reporter represented for the initial portion of the litigation by the Pioneer Institute. The reports for the sixth year were obtained in response to a public records request filed subsequent to the conclusion of the lawsuit." 1. Invent a subject 2. Invent an exam to examine what pupils don't know about the subject 3. Teach to the exam. 4. Pupils doing well at the exam proves that that method of teaching is the best 5. If pupils fail where the best teaching is going on, it's the pupils' fault

With mainstream articles on education and Sold a Story 2 coming out, we are about to experience a period of intense gaslighting. It’s already started. We will be told, repeatedly, that nobody is—or has ever been—against explicit teaching. Which is easily falsified, but these falsifications will be dismissed. We will be told, repeatedly, that all teachers use explicit teaching. Which is true to some extent because the alternatives are so ineffective. But they’re using it without knowing the research and often under pressure to do something else. Why do people try to deny the debate in this way? Why don’t they just come out and make an honest argument?

Election season keeps handing parents attack ads and mailers. NPU President @radiokeri and @Ed4Excellence CEO @EvanRStone handed candidates a to-do list instead: 10 commitments to improve schools, built by 60+ parent and teacher organizations. Read it in @The74: tinyurl.com/4pdakdav

A major point missing from this debate — Integration activists are demanding are a one-size fits all solution which would effectively create the most rigid anti-school choice program for the nation’s largest school district. It’s another aspirational progressive idea devoid of reality with a prescriptive solution that most parent and communities don’t want. Kudos to @DOEChancellor who actually understands the bigger picture and countered with “eliminating screens alone would not resolve segregation and reiterated that reforms needed to be developed with communities.”

Honest question: what exactly is the mechanism by which integration will help black students? I thought the NHJ piece showed pretty conclusively that resources aren’t the issue. Will black kids copy the habits of white kids? Will the presence of white kids elicit better teaching from the teachers? How does this work?

I strictly limit my kids’ internet usage at home, but their schools let them surf YouTube.
NEW: Last school year, a 7th grader viewed 4,700 YouTube videos during class. An 8th grader viewed 5,700 videos in class. A 2nd grader viewed ~500 in just 2 months. Less than 5% were educational. @nbcnews analyzed the YouTube watch histories of students from across the country. My new story shows how far some take it on their school laptops and iPads --> nbcnews.com/specials/hooked-…

Why not focus on the core/immediate issues (academics, order) instead -- or first? Black and brown parents do not prioritize racial integration the way that advocates and white liberals do. It's not how do we do this -- it's whether we should.

If you made a Crown Heights/Bed-Stuy school zone - all kids living there must attend THOSE high schools - you'd get white and Black kids together. The white libs aren't fleeing. Easier said than done, anyway. White flight happened b/c the racist 50s suburbs were cheap!
