After Kent House / London Television Studios - more change at the #SouthBank #GabrielsWharf comes to an end in its incarnation of the last near- 40 years today ...
Today is the end of the pier for Gabriel’s Wharf. For nearly 40 years it’s been a happy, hippy, happening place for food, independent traders and brilliant free happenings. So of course it had to go. We paid our last respects and saw Alina Bzhezhinka (harp) and Tony Kofi (sax)

The @PS_Waverley, the World’s last sea-going paddle steamer, is back on Thames & London trips this Friday for 2 wks (seen here under @TowerBridge, last yr). To stand, pint in hand in its engineroom, is mindblowing. You’ll love it. Book a ticket if you can.

Nearly thirty years as a published writer and this is the first time I’ve used a new device that became instantly irreplaceable (no, I’m not being paid to say this.) It feels like using ink and paper and does everything I want it to do and nothing I don’t need it to do. I know I’m late to the party, but my son gave it to me on my birthday so to me it’s a very recent revelation. It’s already joined my laptop at the top of my Things I Dread Losing list. #supernote

Facebook reminds me that 14 yrs ago I achieved a victory for the mental health of Londoners. I asked @TfL to revise their travel advice & to be more encouraging about traveling in London during the Olympics. They agreed to drop the Boris Johnson voice-overs on buses and tubes. Hallelujah.

Mount Caburn, Eric Ravilious, 1935. It depicts an area of the South Downs (now @sdnpa) in East #Sussex near to Glynde. The original artwork is in the collection of @TownerGallery.

It’s Eric Ravilious’ birthday today: he was born in Acton #OTD in 1903, although he spent his young life in Eastbourne after his family moved to #Sussex. It’s wonderful there are so many of us who continue to appreciate his work. Long may it continue!
