Remembering in the 90s how down south we had “alternative” schools for pregnant girls in jr high & high schools & we never saw them except for my friend Lina in 8th grade. Then moving to Cleveland for 10th grade & was SHOCKED to see all the pregnant girls at Glenville in 98
I can’t seem to ground myself. Which happens sometimes, maybe often, but this feels like it’s never ending. Swimming back & forth & in circles. Loops & shit. It’s exhausting & I can’t seem to shake it. Might it be time for a 🍄 trip to knock some shit loose 🤔
All this really means is, if I’m serious about finishing this writing project then I can’t just lock in 2 days out the week for 4-6 hrs at a time. I’m gone have to fuckin live & breathe it & actually dedicate my time to it. I work better with a loose plan & will have to do that
And this essay started off being about the beginning of my love for hip hop/rap music & those earliest memories all the way thru college & adulthood but somehow ends up about me having to code switch as a tactic of survival in 1st grade & the double life I lived in Alabama 😬
Bout to go to this library & lock tf in for the next 4.5 hrs. Writing, editing, organizing. I gotta quickly either figure out if ima create a Substack, a blog or post like crazy to my IG so I can apply for these grants & stuff. The to do list is long af chile. I got got lunch tho

One thing about parenting my adult son is having to remind myself not to automatically rush to save him. Knowing he has to experience things so he can actually learn & retain the lesson. I hate it but it’s how I know he’ll grow into the man he’s supposed to be with or without me
