Possibly my most important 🧵 & a big announcement(!)
Please read & share.
In 2020, I was on the front lines of the pandemic in Boston- it was a bad time, the worst in my life...
Classic end of night shift moment at handover:
Home team: “thanks mate, sleep well”
Me: “you too”
🤦🏻♂️
How marvellous is this! Can we have more nursing homes like this one in Perth?
There are so many benefits to gardening for both physical and mental health, so making it accessible and integral to the nursing home environment is wonderful to see!

To be honest @Qantas, probably not going to accept a flight change that means I’m supposedly going to be able to leave Sydney before I’ve even arrived. Unless you’ve invented time travel?

I’ve been thinking about the ‘doctors defraud Medicare’ piece for hours.
It’s my considered view that it’s a shitty piece of investigation.
Not because doctors don’t defraud Medicare - a minority do; this is abhorrent.
But because most of what’s in the piece isn’t fraud.👇🏽

It seems weirdly absent from news coverage, but climate change is happening — and happening much faster than scientists even predicted. This is the biggest health threat facing our communities. We need bolder, more urgent action from leaders. Delays risk everything.

...and Australia has specific geographical challenges compared to other countries of similar population- a very large landmass with marked differences in access to breast screening of any variety. (And as pointed out previously- frequent natural disasters impacting access).

Thought provoking stuff at #AIBC. For screening of asymptomatic women, both MR and Contrast-Enhanced Mammography (CEM)- alone- are significantly better than the current workup of mamm+/- tomo+/- US. But there are significant resourcing + logistic issues to make this the norm. 🤔
Great presentation on student advocacy from @yourAMSArural @all__that__jas @jasminemdavis96 at #RMA22! Love seeing AMSA Rural having such a great presence at the conference, and seeing projects we started a few years ago coming to fruition @Imi_cycles @jesspaynter30 @jacobacla
See you soon #RMA22 @RuralDoctorsAus! With this early flight time, tossing up reading @NeelaJan’s The Registrar or getting a bit more sleep!

Why you should care about the recent paper examining Headspace.
Young people are not at the centre, the organisation is silent on the issues that matter, it has monopolised the market through govt levers.
Young people will always lose in this landscape.

Looks like I’ll be in Adelaide for a few more years yet 😀 Can’t wait to move back up to CALHN next year for BPT!

Living with dementia can mean difficulty communicating 🗣️, low mood ☹️ and memory loss 🧠 But there is growing evidence to suggest that music (both listening to and making music) can be effective in helping people with dementia

What can we learn from the death of the #Queen?
The world has watched her live through the process of #OrdinaryDying, and yet dying went unspoken, un-named.
Let's notice what nobody mentioned: we all saw the Queen going through the stages of ordinary dying.

Huge numbers of Australians have owned, driven and trusted Toyota cars over the years, so this may come as pretty shocking..
Turns out #Toyota has grim record of greenwashing and lobbying against measures to reduce climate pollution from cars.
New reports out today..🧵

Out of The Lancet, one of the world's pre-eminent journals, from the brightest minds, only a fortnight ago.
They've even spelled out their interpretation, in case readers can't understand the findings.
After 5d isolation, 2/3 patients are still infectious.

Sigh "GPs wrote >1.2 million mental health plans ... but only 1/3 were reviewed, meaning patients’ progress was largely unmonitored by their GPs." No, GPs billed a 1/3 of their reviews using a MH Medicare number. The rest were billed with other numbers.
