When thereโ€™s a Bond villain in the room but no one wants to talk about it.
That this sociopath has control over not only the communications systems that European militaries rely on but the algorithms that govern a large part of the European information space makes him a clear and present danger to European security. Europe needs to decouple (1/2)

NEW Britainโ€™s missing sovereign wealth fundโ€ฆ Treasury officials have modelled that had the UK done what Norway did with North Sea revenues, there would be a ยฃ1 trillion fundโ€ฆ As Chancellor sets up Energy Wealth Fund, a look at the long historical argument about where the oil windfall went, including from interviews with those who have run Norways $2.4 trillion fund, now the biggest in the world, filled from the proceeds of the same North Sea. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cm4gโ€ฆ

What a diplomat.
Tom Barrack at Global Security Form in Doha says the US no longer wants to own the โ€œGrand Bargainโ€ โ€“ oil in return for security. Says that conflict and controversy was to the western favor, the more off-base the region was the more it could manipulate the fossil fuels. He said that the America that is the guarantor to the world for the last 80 years is no longer there. Says this isn't "abandonment" but that the US now wants to "tend". Calls it a process similar to "raising teenagers"

And yet Europe seems set to choose a similar path in France and Germany.
Extraordinary to be reminded that there is little about Trumpโ€™s subservience to Putin that was not known a decade ago - and yet so many shallow and cynical careerists on both sides of the Atlantic chose to look the other way

The bigger question is who gets a shot at redemption and who is dispatched to oblivion.

NEW: The order to limit a satellite system used by Ukraine for battlefield communications and drone operations came from inside the White House, according to two US officials and a Western official briefed on the matter.

Thank goodness Europe has the kind of sophisticated military technology to step in and turn the tide. Oh wait.
BREAKING: Volodymyr Zelenskyy tells @piersmorgan he has been betrayed by Trump, that Elon Musk and the US deliberately cut off Starlink and people are being killed as a result โ€œThis is not the right side of history,โ€ he says. โ€œIt is a pity that we are losing a strong partnerโ€ On Musk and Starlink he says: โ€œThis decision will bring a lot of human losses. Of course, people will dieโ€ โ€œI am sure they knew what they did, absolutely. Because it was 1am at night, Starlink was blocked by SpaceX and the United Statesโ€ โ€œItโ€™s not just about attack. Itโ€™s also about defending life. So people were killed because, not enough destroying, not enough interceptors, including interceptors with Starlink, which didn't work. Of course.โ€ Asked if heโ€™s angry with Musk, Zelenskyy says: โ€œYes, I think he is not right. It's a big mistake.โ€

A welcome break from their relentless pursuit of white collar crime in the Square Mile.
This morning, City of London Police were at Bank Junction, introducing a new approach to tackling cyclists who ignore red lights, giving offending riders the opportunity to watch a short hard-hitting road safety film instead of receiving an immediate fixed penalty notice.

This summer, the Institute for Progress and the Foundation for American Innovation organized a letter urging Congress to help prevent the misuse of AI for biological weapons. Dario Amodei, Sam Altman, and Demis Hassabis all signed. But @ericxing, a renowned computer scientist who, among many other things, cofounded an AI-driven biology company, didnโ€™t. I asked him why. โ€œEffectively aligns Washington with Moscow and against Ukraineโ€
Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed to supply diesel fuel to the global marketplace, President Trump said, a move that could ease prices but effectively aligns Washington with Moscow and against Ukraine and its bombing of Russian energy infrastructure. wapo.st/4emEpO8

โ€œThe strategic context.โ€ Important new defence in English law.
In 2017 I interviewed a soldier who took part in the SAS night raids in Afghanistan. In 2024 I gave evidence to the public inquiry into allegations of Extra Judicial Killings. While I believe those EJKs took place it is essential to understand the strategic context. My book Blades asks the fundamental question โ€˜what would you have done?โ€™ Because at the time UK govt support for Counter Terrorism operations was non-existent. The human rights of the Taliban were prioritised over the lives of British soldiers. SAS soldiers faced an impossible dilemma. The bombmakers and facilitators operated outside UK ROE and were recycled back onto the battlefield within 96hrs of capture. Yet the IED networks represented the enemyโ€™s most potent threat. Many hundreds of British soldiers and Afghan civilians were being blown up. I am proud that my newspaper the Mail has had the courage to set out these arguments. This is bold journalism. The SAS are not a rogue unit and its soldiers acted rationally and professionally in impossible circumstances. I will debate those points with anyone, anywhere. mol.im/a/16197881
