Twenty-five years ago today, we lost 2,977 souls and in the years since, thousands more to illnesses caused by the attack on our country. This morning, Jill and I hold close the families who carry that loss every day. We honor the heroes of September 11th: the firefighters and police officers who rushed into the towers and the Pentagon, the passengers who fought back over Shanksville, and the generation that stepped up to serve in the aftermath. Even now, we remember the greatest lesson of one of our nation's darkest days: at our most vulnerable, unity is our most powerful strength. We will never forget.
Former President Barack Obama, former President Joe Biden, former President George W. Bush, former President Bill Clinton and their wives are at Friday morning’s New York City 9/11 ceremony. 9/11 25th anniversary live updates: abcnews.visitlink.me/Pgvg7u

Deion Sanders shares what's wrong with most athletes today. "That's what's wrong with most of our athletes today: We don't practice to be great...We practice to practice." "I practiced to be the best ever." Success starts with your preparation. It means being intentional about how you practice. Not just showing up - but showing up with purpose. Anyone can go through the motions. But to be great, you have to practice like it matters. (🎥@DeionSanders)

This man was the living embodiment of artistry, integrity, creativity, and dignity. James Earl Jones is the sole reason I became an actor. He stirred a vocation in me that gave voice to my unsung heart songs. By example, he led me on the exploration of my own personal humanity and the study of human behavior in others and the intangible, ever-present soul. He was a once in a generation talent that has left an enormous legacy in American culture.

Playing with the legendary Four Tops on saxophone—twice—is among the great musical thrills of my life. Today I’m joining everyone gathered in Detroit in bidding a fond farewell to generational talent, Duke Fakir, the group’s last original member and a very good man.

Days after his 90th Birthday, Bill Cobbs died today. A father figure, a griot, an iconic artist, that mentored me by the way he led his life as an actor. He played my father twice: in I’ll Fly Away & The Gregory Hines Show. Each time imparting wisdom with a word of encouragement

Affirmative action was never a complete answer in the drive towards a more just society. But for generations of students who had been systematically excluded from most of America’s key institutions—it gave us the chance to show we more than deserved a seat at the table. In the wake of the Supreme Court’s recent decision, it’s time to redouble our efforts.
I wanted to share some of my thoughts on today's Supreme Court decision on affirmative action:

Did you know the 1926 premiere of Bartók’s “The Miraculous Mandarin” caused such a scandal in Cologne that the mayor banned all further performances? Hear the ballet’s suite, performed by the @Vienna_Phil on Carnegie Hall+: carnegiehallplus.com

Look who attended last night's @Cardinals game! That's right, Music Director Stéphane Denève and Conductor Laureate @LeonardSlatkin saw our Cards deliver a record-tying seven home runs in a single home game in a win over the Dodgers. Good luck charms? We'd like to think so!

Harry Belafonte was a barrier-breaking legend who used his platform to lift others up. He lived a good life – transforming the arts while also standing up for civil rights. And he did it all with his signature smile and style. Michelle and I send our love to his wife, kids, and fans.

RIP to my dear brother-in-arms, Harry Belafonte. From our time coming up, struggling to make it in NY in the 50’s with our brother Sidney Poitier, to our work on “We Are The World” & everything in between, you were the standard bearer for what it meant to be an artist/activist.
