We have continued to dig into the root cause here and would like to offer an update.
Our engineering team discovered that the spike that triggered the incorrect enforcement was primarily in the account’s “reading” behavior. Specifically, our network security systems detected the use of a Claude tool reading profiles, posts, and hashtags, the rate of which sharply increased (~4x volume) in intense bursts on October 17.
These abrupt, high-volume, sequential requests in a short period resembled automated bot traffic rather than an ordinary human browsing our systems. This activity caused our automated protections to incorrectly take the No Kings Instagram account offline. An automated re-review of the removal action an hour later recognized that shouldn’t have happened and restored the account. It unfortunately took additional time for us to straighten out the situation with admin access to the IG account.
We want to reiterate our sincere apology for the error.
When accounts post, share or comment at very high frequencies it can trigger automated systems. That's what happened with the No Kings IG account in the lead up to today's day of action. Unfortunately, that automated action was clearly taken in error. Everything is now working as it should and we sincerely apologize.

The crawling terms we consolidated only applies to our ads and business products, and we've now clarified that in the terms themselves. As we said, how Meta uses web crawlers isn’t changing, nor is how content owners can use robots.txt to signal preferences. These updates don't give us new rights to supersede such preferences and this isn’t about scraping news sites.

This is false. There's no change to how Meta uses web crawlers. As always, content owners can use robots.txt flags to indicate their preferences. This update is designed to make sure we’re able to pull accurate information about products for sale on third-party websites when making on-platform ad and content recommendations, not about scraping news sites.

Proud that @Meta sponsored and participated in this year’s Tradeswomen Build Nations conference as we deepen our partnership with @NABTU to expand opportunities in America’s skilled trades.
It was especially meaningful to see graduates of our @AmerWorkAcademy spend time with @NABTU President Sean McGarvey. His leadership is helping create more opportunities for women in the skilled trades to build the infrastructure that will power America's future.

"The benefits of this project extend beyond the facilities themselves, creating demand for construction workers, engineers, electricians, and other skilled professionals while driving investment into local land, infrastructure, and communication services."

OK, but maybe part of what this shows is reflexively negative coverage on CNN, MSNOW that misses nuance and context and discounts the huge economic benefits (eg in Richland Parish, La., sales tax revenues grew more in 2025 alone than in the last 20 years combined)
In last night's @semafor Media newsletter: We tracked every mention of data centers on Fox, CNN, and MS NOW, an analyzed using AI models whether they'd leave a favorable or unfavorable impression on viewers
Donald Trump's favorite network is a clear outlier in its relatively rosy tone toward data centers--

According to GrowNELA, due to the Meta project, Richland Parish has gained more annual sales tax revenue in 2025 alone than in the last 20 years combined - from $21m in 2024 to $39m in 2025 and a projected $92m at the end of 2026.
