Making immigrants have to pass A level English standards while White British people continue to have one of the highest fail rates for English at GCSE level is kinda amusing.
Under the Earned Settlement model set out before Parliament today, the right to live in the UK permanently will no longer be granted automatically after five years.
Instead, it will be earned.
Under the reforms:
โก๏ธThe standard route to settlement will double from five to 10 years
โก๏ธ People who enter illegally, including by small boat, face a wait of up to 30 years to settle
โก๏ธ Care workers who meet the visa requirements will retain a five-year route
โก๏ธ Higher earners on more than ยฃ50,000, skilled public service workers and refugees arriving on safe and legal routes will be able to settle in five years
โก๏ธ Migrants who claim benefits face a 20-year wait for settlement
โก๏ธ Migrants with a criminal record will be prevented from settling in the UK
โก๏ธ Migrants will be required to meet A-level standard English to settle in the UK
