How @AnthropicAI Claude helped me solve two PhD-level problems in engineering. Thanks to @karthik_r_n for suggesting to put on X.

Colloidal particles at fluid interfaces may strongly hinder or barely affect mass transfer. Using the Fick-Jacobs equation, a new Letter shows that hindrance occurs mainly at short times from reduced cross-section, giving a simple predictive criterion.

Our new work from the Schwartz lab (ft.@LIFE_Boulder) is out! pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pnas.25… Here, we showed how to use DC fields to systematically control charged nanoparticles from random fast searching to directional delivery in an interconnected porous environments.
I’m excited to share the lineup of LIFE Group posters and presentations at hashtag #AIChE2025! This year, we’ve got an amazing group of talks and posters, with many folks on the job market. @ChEnected We’re so excited to see you all in Boston and catch up!

#New models show that the unique, imperfect patterns seen in animal coats arise from cell size and movement, offering insights for adaptive materials and advanced camouflage technologies. @cellpressnews phys.org/news/2025-10-animal…
Hot off the press 🔥 in @Matter_CP. We report imperfect Turing patterns of hard spheres diffusiophoretically assembling to chemical signals, enabling us to get imperfections such as packing limits, variation in thickness, pattern breakups. @CUEngineering authors.elsevier.com/a/1l-tf…
Philosophical take: Perhaps we can take inspiration from the imperfect beauty of natural systems and maybe even use these imperfections to impart functionality someday.
Congratulations to Siamak Mirfendereski, who led the work and is on the job market this year; please find him at @ChEnected this year if you are interested.
Congratulations to Ethan Coleman for this accomplishment!
Charged particles in electrolytes usually move in one direction, but under certain acid-base and salt conditions, they can reverse and focus. A computational study shows that a pH-dependent zeta potential is crucial, explaining experimental observations.

New work from @LIFE_Boulder is out now in @PRX_Energy! Congratulations to @filipe_hs! We show how transport of ions with different diffusivities creates coupled dynamics between the ions, which results in their impedance being represented through parallel Warburg elements.
