This #CarersWeek I’ve written a few thoughts from my own experience. This is not something I’ve shared publicly before but this week I felt compelled to share, knowing that my story is not new or unique to me, but shared by the 5 million #carers in the uk.
It's #CarersWeek and our CEO Anna McEwen has written a blog to raise awareness of the invaluable contributions unpaid carers make. Anna shares her own lived experience as a carer, reflecting on the daily challenges many face when caring for a loved one. buff.ly/3x1UpmB

It's #CarersWeek! Carers Week has come at an important time with the #GeneralElection very soon. The nation's devoted carers have been pushed to the limit, and they need and deserve the next Government to finally support them. Find out more: bit.ly/3XdyCmp

Workforce retention in social care - possibly our biggest challenge and even got a mention in those 36 seconds of the leaders debate. I’m looking forward to introducing this session with @Cohesiontalk at the @VODGmembership conference today.
Looking forward to the @VODGmembership Annual Conference in Birmingham next week! If you're attending on 6th June, why not join our workshop at 1.30 pm - where we'll be discussing how providers can positively impact workforce retention? #VODGConf24 #SocialCare #Retention

This #GeneralElection must be as accessible as possible or risk isolating millions of voters. We’re backing calls by VODG members for manifestos to be in Easy Read and other accessible formats, and for speeches and announcements to have a British Sign Language interpreter.

Ahead of the #SpringBudget we are calling on @Jeremy_Hunt to prioritise disabled people. This must include funding for #localgov to cover the full cost of services and National Living Wage increases. Without this, essential services will cease to exist. vodg.org.uk/resource/vodg-pr…

To ignore #socialcare and the funding needed by local government and the charities they commission, is to fail millions of people. We are calling on The Chancellor to ensure disabled people of all ages are a priority in tomorrow’s #SpringBudget ⬇️

We sent the #solutions in a letter to the Chancellor today: 📈Benefits must be increased at least in line with inflation ➕Provide additional support for disabled households with higher energy costs, including an energy social tariff 🤝All support must be communicated accessibly

⏰In one week, the Chancellor will set out his spending decisions. As we enter the second winter of a #CostofLivingCrisis, many disabled people and their families are at breaking point, benefits don’t cover the additional costs of being disabled & debt and worry continue to rise.
