Holy f*ck, Disney animators spent 50 years on these 12 rules. Claude Opus 5.5 does each one from a single line
the 10th one is f*cking insane
1. Squash & stretch > "squash it 20% when it lands, stretch it 30% on the way up, keep the volume"
2. Anticipation > "before every big move, a small move the other way: crouch before the jump"
3. Staging > "one action at a time, a spotlight on the hero, everything else darker"
4. Pose to pose > "key the 4 main poses first, then snap the in-betweens into them"
5. Follow-through > "when it stops, the arms keep going for 3 frames, then settle"
6. Slow in, slow out > "ease every move: slow start, fast middle, slow stop"
7. Arcs > "nothing moves in a straight line: every jump and swing follows a curve"
8. Secondary action > "while it walks, it waves: a small action on top of the big one"
9. Timing > "fast moves feel light, slow moves feel heavy: 6 frames vs 30"
10. Exaggeration > "push every emotion 2x past real: huge eyes, body stretched tall"
11. Solid drawing > "keep the volume solid from every angle, check it on a 360 turn"
12. Appeal > "big eyes, round shapes, one smile the viewer wants to see again"
if i had to pick 2, i'd start with Anticipation and Exaggeration
