Anuma Nearby retweeted
Just got back to SF and figured I should say hi properly
Building Anuma Nearby (map of who’s around you), if you’re here and care about getting people offline, let’s connect!
your AI remembers your projects, your code and how you write
what's one thing about your actual life you'd want it to remember?
new to nyc people,
how many people have you met since you moved here
and how many could you text 'free tonight?' right now
the second number is the one we care about: anuma.ai/nearby
marathon sunday is the one day nyc acts like a small town
strangers screaming your name, sharing snacks, hugging people they just met
we need like 12 more of those a year
hot take: most friendships don't fade because people stop liking each other. they fade because nobody planned the next hang
so we built an app that just... plans it for you
most people who moved to nyc in the last couple years still try to make plans the old way: text 4–5 friends, wait for replies, then get flaked on.
the blocker isn’t “I don’t know enough people,” it’s that almost none of them are free *right now*.
anuma nearby flips it: open the map, see who’s nearby and actually open, chat, and lock something before the end of the day.
multiplayer AI for your social life.
people nearby you’d actually click with, based on what Anuma already knows about you. and a map to bring it all together
call @anuma in the group chat when you need the plan. this is what we mean by multiplayer.
I'm committed to making it easier for you to meet someone new in NYC.
We started off with a question - how can I meet someone nearby me?
Our two main solutions came with being able to search for other users in AI chat from what Anuma already knows about you. Then, we created an approximate location-sharing map based UI so you can see other users on Anuma around you as well.
This is our solution to creating a better social discovery platform to find other users without having to swipe or have constant paywalls from other apps.
Anuma is smarter now. Anuma can plan things for you in your chats or even your group chats with other people in NYC. Anuma remembers you and uses your context to find more people you'd vibe well with. Anuma turns social discovery into a real life meetup.
This is multiplayer AI for your social life.
density ≠ connection
8 million people and still the group chat goes quiet. Nearby v2 finds people nearby based on what you’re actually into, then just @anuma if you need the plan sorted.
if you’re new to nyc and down for spontaneous hangs, it’s live. go find someone tonight.
NYC has 8 million people and something happening every night, and somehow that makes it lonelier.
You find a cute new wine bar and want to go right now. You text a few friends, everyone's busy, and you end up staying in again. Watching everyone else's night on your stories.
So we built a way to find people nearby you'd actually click with, based on what you're into, and meet them in person. And if you and your (new) friends can't decide where to go, just @anuma and it plans the hangout for you.
If you're new to NYC and down for spontaneous hangs with people nearby, Nearby v2 is live today :)
you told us the map felt like it was tracking you. locations were always approximate, but we never said so. now the app does. findable, not trackable.
you told anuma you just moved to nyc. it remembered, and showed you who else just moved nearby. starting over feels a little easier when you're not the only one doing it.
ok so apparently it takes about 200 hours to make a close friend
50 hours → casual friend
90 hours → friend
200+ hours → close friend
that's a lot of coffees. worth every one tho

it’s already solved for people willing to manage their own files. but most people won’t, and they shouldn’t have to.
memory should just follow you. it’s a big part of why we’re building anuma.
Right or Wrong ?
Switching costs for consumer AI, won't approach zero until there is a standardized export format for what is in a model's memory.
The more a consumer uses a model, the more it's memory stores. The more work to export and import
I'm not saying it can't be done. Obviously you can import from one model to another. But for regular users, that's a lot more difficult than saving to an xls or doc file
Curious what people think ?
anuma remembered you're into running, so it found 3 people nearby who are too. maybe one of them becomes your saturday running buddy.
Anuma remembers what you chat about. a privacy toggle decides what nearby gets to see. the rest stays between you and Anuma.
FINDABLE, not trackable. you told us so we made it clearer. keep telling us
Two weeks since we launched Nearby. Here’s what we’re changing based on feedback from our first sprint of events:
1. We’re adjusting onboarding so it’s clearer what Nearby does, and fewer people drop off before they get there.
2. Locations on the map were always approximate, but our copy didn’t make that clear. So we changed it. People want to be findable, not trackable.
3. We’re unifying the experience across the app, so it feels like one product instead of separate features.
After months of building, you can’t see your product the way a new user does. Your first users can.
Shipping fast is the easy part. Listening fast is the hard part.
