Alabama passed a law, 138 votes to nothing, that makes every phone user in the state prove their age before downloading a single app.
A 45-year-old who wants a news app has to hand ID to Google first. Existing accounts get no pass either. Every one of them must be verified by October 2027.
Teenagers will need a parent’s sign-off to install Wikipedia, Duolingo or a Bible app, and kids without a parent to ask get locked out completely.
Apple, Google and Amazon’s lobby group has now sued to block it on First Amendment grounds.

I do think it’s important to think of the UK porn laws less in terms of their impacts on consumers, and more in terms of it being a means of enacting disciplinary violence against a class of (increasingly independent!) sex workers who produce pornography.

Did you know that on the 6th of November 2026 the UK Government is banning the publication and possession of pornography depicting breath play, age-play, and incest?
The maximum sentence for publication offences is five years imprisonment.
This will affect publishers and consumers globally.
The offences are, in simple terms:
1. Strangulation or suffocation.
(2 years for possession, 5 years for publication)
2. Penetrative sexual activity between people pretending to be related.
(2 years for possession, 5 years for publication)
3. Sexual activity between two people where (a reasonable person would think) at least one person is, or is pretending to be, under sixteen.
(3 years for possession, 5 years for publication)

We survived things no human being should ever have to experience. I lived through war, fear, hunger, loss, and unimaginable pain. I carried my baby through this nightmare, gave birth under terrible circumstances, and fought to keep her alive. Today, Ruh is here in my arms, and she is my greatest reason to keep going.
But surviving the genocide does not mean our suffering is over.
We are still living in a fragile tent in Gaza, struggling every single day to find food, clean water, milk, diapers, and the most basic necessities for my daughter. As winter approaches, I am terrified of the rain, the flooding, the cold, and what another night in this tent could mean for my little girl.
I am a mother who dreams of giving her child a safe place to sleep, warm clothes to wear, enough food to eat, and a childhood free from fear. I never imagined that I would have to ask strangers around the world for help just to meet my baby’s basic needs.
I don’t want to be known only as a victim. I want to survive, rebuild my life, and give Ruh the future she deserves. But right now, we cannot do this alone.
