Head of Ecosystem @citrea_xyz, Bitcoin’s first ZK rollup

Some privacy lore behind this photo My professional journey in crypto started right around the Tornado Cash sanctions when I began working with the Chainway Labs team, and on-chain privacy immediately became our first obsession. The existential threat to on-chain privacy bothered the team so much that they locked in on whiteboard sessions to build a solution where privacy could co-exist with compliance. That’s how Proof of Innocence was built. I feel so lucky to have witnessed the team’s commitment and @ekrembal’s brilliance with cryptography and zero-knowledge circuits. The idea that users could mathematically prove their funds are not linked to illicit addresses without revealing their identity was breakthrough tech and the team open-sourced the entire framework for the space. It went viral overnight and got covered by @TheBlockCo and @Bankless, and caught the attention of researchers across the space - leading to Vitalik reaching out to talk tech. While the team didn’t turn that public good into a product at the time, they continued to be involved in the privacy landscape while building the foundations on Bitcoin. It feels right to bring everything the team learned from frontier ZK research and privacy to Bitcoin via @crest_btc! Super excited for the upcoming launch!

⊢ want your btc to earn without selling a sat? a couple days ago i put some btc into @citrea_xyz's cbtc vault. my bitcoin is still there plus a stimmy waiting to be claimed. i was gonna hodl that btc anyway.. that's the point with $CTR climbing the vault's 7d apy is now at 71%. imo citrea's the best place to put $BTC to use without selling it. and soon with crest we'll be able to make private btc payments too. CM [Citrea Morning] fam☕️
⊢ want zcash-style privacy for your bitcoin? till now: btc → swap to zec → zcash pool → swap back → btc and while you're in there your money is zec. on @citrea_xyz: > in from bitcoin, lightning or other chains > inside, your btc stays btc. amount and address hidden > hold it there, exit when you pay someone: as btc, to other chains, even as usdc. ↳ as @ekrembal said: coinjoin is the only privacy option on $BTC itself rn. it mixes inputs and outputs, but later spends can still get fingerprinted and linked. citrea keeps the btc in the pool; you exit when you need to pay. no utxo management. and hacker deposits get flagged and have to leave. funds are not frozen. keys stay with you. crest waitlist is live. have you joined yet?

In all my chats in Seoul and Singapore, Bitcoin privacy is the one topic I kept asking people about. No one doubts it could easily be the next narrative, and I agree. The follow-up was more interesting tho. Who could actually pull it off. Bitcoin privacy is a multi-layered problem. It needs a way to move BTC with real verification and no soft fork, a place to run complex verification and contracts, and a compliance answer that doesn’t involve a backdoor. It’s definitely not an easy problem. Teams spend years on each of those alone. When we started our company, our first real product was Proof of Innocence. We built it right after Tornado Cash, when the consensus was that compliant onchain privacy couldn’t exist. Railgun and Privacy Pools are built on it today. Basically, any privacy protocol that needs compliance but rejects backdoors ends up with a Proof of Innocence-like framework. Then the same team went on to ship the first ZK rollup on Bitcoin and the first trust-minimized BTC bridge with BitVM2. It’s still the only one deployed. So when people ask me who cracks Bitcoin privacy, I have a pretty clear answer. It’s the team aligned on $CTR 🍊

this is pretty interesting even though the target apy for the new cBTC earn vault by @citrea_xyz is ⁓10% it’s currently sitting at 56% apy a pretty huge benefit for early depositors while the vault is still small instead of letting your bitcoin sit idle you can deposit cBTC and let the vault put it to work while you keep your exposure in btc the vault is curated by @ClearstarLabs they run a curated mix of risk-adjusted strategies, such as lending, lping, and carry trades, to generate yield and any dollar-denominated yield generated gets converted back into bitcoin so the loop is basically: btc → productive capital → yield → more btc the target may be 10% long term but right now, being early is paying a lot more than that wanna be early before the crowd? join here: app.upshift.finance/vaults/c…

Full circle moment: Super excited to officially welcome @crest_btc to Citrea and ecstatic to work even closer with @0x_fsociety, coming a long way since the early Citrea Origins days. Private BTC for all 🍊
Pretty surreal to finally share this. I started Crest with a simple conviction: to bring privacy to Bitcoin without reserving it for technical users or forcing people through painful UX. The best asset should have privacy that is accessible to all. What began as a Citrea ecosystem project grew into a much bigger mission. To accelerate that mission, Crest is now joining Citrea as its flagship product, and I’m joining as Product Lead to keep building it. The mission stays the same: make Bitcoin private, and make that privacy intuitive, accessible, and actually usable for people. Same mission. Bigger team. Way more firepower. Time to ship
