My take on UK's housing crisis. This post is about the theoretical and mathematical interplay in the housing market, thus an attempt to seek market equilibrium from it. Notice that I pin down certain solution though I am open about a means to achieve it. marthaargerich.wordpress.com…
Johann Sebastian Bach is the Shakespeare of music. Best there ever was.

I'm completely flummoxed.

I haven't posted any updates on my art blog in the past few months. I've been busy wrapping up some urgent things, so hopefully I'll be back next month, once I've regained the artsy-fartsy part of my brain. Fun fact: The blog's name was inspired by Arthur Rimbaud's poem Le Bateau ivre. papillon-de-mai.tumblr.com

Joyeux anniversaire à mon éternel crush français! ❤️
Happy birthday to Arthur Rimbaud, born today in 1854! "Once, if I remember rightly, my life was a feast where all hearts opened and all wines flowed... " Prologue to A Season In Hell.

It’s funny how this guy just copied some of my most niche stances and opinions—including my picks of Romantic composers, yet deliberately ignored the need to be a good husband/partner and a good dad 🙃🫠

We want to support the mathematics community in turning progress in AI into deeper human understanding and new discoveries. To support that goal, we are contributing $5 million to a new Simons Foundation initiative to help mathematicians examine, understand, and build on results produced by AI, including the results we recently published. The funding, managed and awarded by the @SimonsFdn will support workshops, conferences, and special programs. We will also provide access to our models and computing resources to Simons Foundation-supported researchers.

One observation I've made almost consistently about Americans, especially the well-off ones, is that they emphasise formality above everything else in social settings, including the art of saving face. Think of those who are known for being "kind and generous" and who seem to have almost zero "friction" with anyone, even strangers they've just met. It's all a little façade. They reserve certain judgements for themselves (and their spouses), keeping them private while putting on a show of universal amiability to avoid awkwardness and make social interactions run smoothly. Wouldn't it be funny as fuck if they were publicly opinionated about all sorts of things, e.g., partisan politics, yet at the same time refused to "assess" those around them in private? 😊 Now, imagine divorcing someone after years of marriage, during which you shared many things, including circles of friends. An amicable separation serves less as a coping mechanism than as a mutual way of protecting each other from bad press (and keeping secrets under wraps) and, of course, making things less awkward when you bump into each other at social occasions.
People who have amicable divorces are the most unsettling people on the planet. LinkedIn Americans see marriage as a job that you can quit with a 2 week notice. Mediated divorce is a status symbol to put on their resume to these freaks. These people need to be anihilated.

A more general comparison would be the 9-to-5 office life, where you always run the risk of bumping into at least 35% of your coworkers on a daily basis. On the surface, you notice that everyone gets along well, exchanging greetings, smiles, small talk, etc., but we know that once you get close to some of them, they'll have stories of "inconvenience" to share about other coworkers... (This made me joke to myself that perhaps it was the Americans who invented the 9-to-5 workday.)

A beautifully told story. I'm praying for his wife and children 🕊️
Eric never studied Stoicism. He didn't need to. He looked his mortality in face and didn't blink. Part one of my tribute to a friend, and a giant. jesse.blog/essays/the-loss-o…

After seeing two super pleasing things about the property markets yesterday, I was reminded that I’d forgotten to “introduce” myself to the fifth one ;) (I can’t stop until I get it done, can I?)

Salad days for home builders won’t last. Not a fan of home builder stocks. Building is a commodity business. Land appreciation/development is most of the ROIC. Housing shortage is mostly because people are failing to pair up. Square feet of housing per capita are at all-time high. wsj.com/economy/housing/homh…

The irony is that it only makes the people you don't like even more disgusted with you and more eager to see you get fucked(!!!). Nothing is worse than dishonesty and insincerity becoming even more apparent, especially when they're mixed with desperation. Accept your fate and move the fuck on.
One of the most universal causes of self-doubt and depression: trying to impress people you don’t like.
