We cannot hope to resolve the prison capacity crisis without addressing the crisis in our courts. Court delays leave victims waiting years for justice while adding pressure to an overcrowded prison estate. It's a vicious cycle. My letter in Guardian: 🔗theguardian.com/society/2026…

From 26 October, persistent anti-social behaviour offenders will face being banned from town centres. New Respect Orders could see offenders ordered into drug, alcohol or anger management treatment programmes. Those who breach these orders could face arrest and jail time.

Today we publish Baroness Helen Newlove’s final report. As Commissioner, Helen was a real force for change - this annual report is testament to that. But it is also clear that victims’ rights are gathering dust as we wait for Government to deliver on the changes they promised.

This #ASBAwarenessWeek comes as fewer victims are reporting anti-social behaviour. Data shows many don’t know how to report. Others would report if they could do so anonymously. Victims need clear routes to report, access to support, and confidence they’ll be taken seriously.

The Victims’ Code sets out the rights victims should receive after a crime - but too often those rights aren’t delivered. With a revised Code now being consulted on, we have a real chance to get this right. In my blog, I set out what needs to change. ✍️🔗victimscommissioner.org.uk/n…

There’s lots to welcome in the Victims and Courts Bill - but we can and must go further and keep pushing for change. Last week, peers in the Lords debated several key amendments that have my backing during the bill's committee stage. Read what happened:🔗victimscommissioner.org.uk/n…

The Victims’ Right to Review (VRR) should be a safeguard, not a dead end. There is a glaring gap between victims' rights on paper and rights in practice. If the CPS makes a mistake and stops a case in the Crown Court, that decision is final - even if a review proves it was wrong

Our justice system teeters on the edge. Sir Brian Leveson has set out the blueprint for reform: investment, efficiency, and structural reform. There is no 'cherry-picking' our way out of this emergency. For victims, it's all or nothing. 🔗 My statement: victimscommissioner.org.uk/n…

We spoke with a victim of anti-social behaviour who shared a tip they had learned in therapy about dealing with the psychological impact of their neighbour's behaviour. Do you use any techniques like this?

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Baroness Newlove. Helen was a tireless advocate for victims who challenged justice agencies to treat victims with the compassion, decency and respect they deserve. She'll be greatly missed. Full statement:victimscommissioner.org.uk/n…

Over 6,500 victims’ experiences are captured in my latest survey – the largest yet. It's a comprehensive account of the victim journey, and it's clear confidence in the justice system is alarmingly low. This should trouble us all. More in @Independent: independent.co.uk/news/uk/ho…
