Ok I admit I did not have 'SpaceX rewrites aviation control software to launch more' on my bingo card. This company does not take no for an answer it's truly something else...
In a comment to the FAA, SpaceX says it wants to launch 10,000 times per year. The FAA asked for input on where to build new spaceports and how to give rocket launches priority in US airspace. They're preparing for 10,000 launches a year by 2035. SpaceX replied that rockets aren't the bottleneck anymore, the FAA's outdated air traffic processes are. They created their own airspace tool (Cleared) that most major US airlines already get for free. They also noted that Starbase Louisiana is designed for ~30 launches and reentries PER DAY (!!)

wild ruling out of Seattle that @PHLCouncil needs to read. a builder put $39M into 254 low-income apartments locked at 60% AMI for 30 years. from 2015 to 2018 it worked, collecting ~94% of rent. then Seattle stacked on "tenant protections": banned criminal background checks, banned winter evictions, required 180 days notice for rent hikes + 3 months relocation pay, and forced the owner to let unscreened roommates move in and take over leases. result: rent collections dropped from 93.9% to 44.1%!!! the building lost nearly $6M through 2023 ($2.7M in 2023 alone) and is now appraised as functionally worthless. the city bankrupted actual affordable housing lol. the appeals court just ruled the owner can sue Seattle for an unconstitutional taking. when you strip a landlord's right to screen, collect rent or remove non-paying tenants, it's not "regulation" anymore, you took the building…. Philly has half these laws already 🙄 courts.wa.gov/opinions/pdf/8…

i think it's probably a young man's game to think the current republican leadership is doing nothing for the right wing in America because anyone old enough remembers previous republican administrations that ACTUALLY did nothing
If the current political right is destroyed and the left has absolute totalitarian power to put you in a cage for the rest of your life on a whim, how do you think a new, real, nationalist right would ever emerge? Even if you think the current order is unbearably corrupt, you still have basic ability to organize and you still have freedom of speech. If you can’t succeed with those freedoms intact, how do you expect to succeed without them at all? It’s like being a slow runner and thinking that the solution is to amputate both of your legs!!!

There was once a shepherd who found a wolf caught in a snare at the edge of his pasture. The wolf begged to be freed. “I was hungry,” it said. “That is all. Spare me, and I will remember your mercy!” The shepherd cut the rope. The next night, three lambs were gone. Again the shepherd found the wolf. Again it pleaded. Again the shepherd convinced himself that mercy was proof of his goodness. By winter, half the flock was dead. An old farmer finally asked him, “Why do you keep freeing it?” The shepherd answered, “Because I refuse to become cruel.” The farmer looked at the empty field and said, “Then understand what you have done. You were not merciful to the wolf. You were cruel to everything that trusted you to keep them safe.” That’s the lesson. Mercy without judgment isn’t virtue. When someone openly intends to destroy what has been entrusted to you, endless forgiveness doesn’t make you righteous. It makes everyone behind you pay for your vanity.

It's probably worth watching this video of Elissa Slotkin again in light of what's happening in Brazil. "Latin America" is not thousands of miles away. Your country is already Latin America. Lula said he would imprison Bolsonaro during the first televised debate.
ON UCHICAGO CAMPUS: U.S. Senator from Michigan Elissa Slotkin hopes planned political prosecutions of republican leaders will scare young conservatives from getting involved in politics. @ElissaSlotkin

Replying to @eigenrobot
Census numbers get used for all sorts of things besides voting that need to be scaled by residents, illegal or no. You wouldn't want local emergency services or schools cut back bc there are lots of illegals in your area.

After all this time we’ve finally found the only foreigner that these assholes don’t want to let into America
Losing an election is not grounds for asylum. Yet the Trump Administration is giving Flávio Bolsonaro safe haven in the United States. In Brazil, he is under investigation for alleged corruption, money laundering and currency evasion, and was ordered to surrender his passports. The Trump Administration owes Congress answers on its role helping Bolsonaro flee Brazil in contravention of Brazilian law. apnews.com/article/brazil-fl…

When people talk about assisted living it's clear that they're imagining basically healthy -- just older -- people living full lives in managed spaces. To be fair, this is also how it's depicted in TV and movies. This is not what nursing homes are actually like, to state the obvious. Healthy, functioning people do not typically enter nursing facilities to live for long stretches. They live alone or with family. The people in nursing home typically require significant monitoring and care and by the time it comes to that, what happens is that they spend down their assets until Medicaid takes over, and you're thankful for it, because they require more care than you could possibly give. This is just the reality of the situation.
I genuinely don’t understand how ordinary people are supposed to afford assisted living for their aging parents. Some facilities charge upwards of $10,000 A MONTH. That’s $120,000 a year just to make sure your parents are properly cared for. How is the average family supposed to afford that?

democrats: if we take power we will seize elon musk's companies and put him in prison and no, we do not care if he technically committed any crime or not also democrats, somehow: why is elon musk funding republicans?
Elon Musk is dumping half a billion dollars into Republican races. Why? Because Democrats in Congress won’t be a rubber stamp for Donald Trump and will actually fight to lower costs.

Understand how the narrative works. Ahead of Brazil’s election, they were gearing up to blame Meta if Lula lost. Now that he’s been declared the winner, we’re hearing about the brilliant use of WhatsApp (Meta) that helped deliver his victory. When Obama won in 2012, they celebrated his shrewd use of Facebook, voter data and microtargeting. When Brexit happened and Trump won in 2016, we got the Cambridge Analytica moral panic. When the left wins, it’s brilliant digital campaigning. When the right wins, it’s social media manipulation undermining democracy.

This is a reminder of the stakes today, not only for Western nations but also for those who enter politics on the right. Failure doesn’t mean you get to go back to a normal life. Failure means you go to prison or are tortured under house arrest or killed. A sobering thought.
“Flávio has given up,” an adviser to the Bolsonaro family told me. “He’s terrified. He is worried his father will die in jail, that he himself will be jailed this week and that he may have a long prison term ahead.” washingtonpost.com/politics/…

There's at least one more option: roll back the networkification of all software over the last 20 years. Some software must be networked, but a lot is networked only because that enables more lucrative subscription business models. We could undo that. xitter.cf/sachaservan/status/211…
There are two approaches to cybersecurity now that we’re in the vulnpolcalypse: 1. “patch the planet” by burning mountains of tokens, red teaming, and patching until you think there are no more exploitable bugs in the software 2. Shrink software components into their most minimal essence, tailor them to a particular system, and then formally verify it Both approches are now enabled by LLMs. But only the second one can be done on a budget and without having access to frontier cyber models like mythos. This is why I’m excited to see more legacy software get boiled down, hardened, and verified
