Designers: I implore you to learn about the back-end system of the apps you work on. How can you advocate for the user if you don’t know how their data is being used, or stored? How can you offer a good experience if you can’t signal what’s going on under the hood in the UI?

Most people massively over complicate the concept of “strategy”. Ultimately a strategy is the general approach you are going to take in order to deliver your company mission/goals.

I’d also like to add that I think we massively over estimate the importance of “the strategy” while simultaneously under estimating the importance of delivery.

Good design solves problems. Good experience design isn’t about good screens, it’s about good experiences.

There’s a tendency to think that when we’re designing for a user’s experience, we’re only talking about applications, websites, and other digital products and services. Yet, UX design encompasses far more than digital design. It always has. medium.com/@jmspool/the-true…

Have you ever seen user experience design live in a part of an organization that wasn't digital or tech or engineering? Does anyone have the title of UX designer in an org that spends the majority of their time designing non-digital experiences?

Apart from the word Digital being unnecessary, this is precisely why the Sunday blues are hitting me harder than ever tonight. "Go and speak to users to find out what they really want. Oh, they want wholesale change? Well you can't do that. Anyway, what have you been doing?"

Stages of strategy maturity 1: We don't need a strategy 2: We need a strategy but don't have one 3: We have a strategy but it isn’t articulated 4: We have an articulated strategy but our execution is disconnected 5: We are cohesively executing on a known & rigorous strategy

Before jumping in with our design tools & asking “How might we <solve a hard problem>,” we need to ask those who’ve been doing the work, “What are you already doing? How can I help?” Good followership matters as much as good leadership.

In these times, we need guidance to process and give voice to our lament, acknowledgement, and gratitude each day. These 3 questions from @jaredmackey have helped me the most.
