it was fun bug to chase.
If you renamed a file, had a non ASCII filename, or opened a project inside a bigger repo, the changed files list showed paths that git couldn't commit.
Root cause: it was parsing git's human readable output, which quotes and escapes paths. Now it uses git status -z and numstat with NUL separators,
so paths come through exactly as they are.
