In case you missed it, Avid can now move clips vertically in the timeline with one click (up or down). I've died and gone to heaven. youtube.com/watch?v=WdtKr88g…

Airtable is stunningly good. A simple cloud database with a LOT of depth. xitter.gq/5tu/status/10215159077…
Among the tools I’m relying on for my home-brew VFX production pipeline is @airtable. There’s a classic spreadsheet view, but this card view is super cool too. airtable.com/invite/r/s93Q99…

Want to move a clip vertically in the timeline and keep it locked in position? In 2018.1 there are news tools in the command palette to do that. In previous versions, select the clip(s) with the segment mode tool and hold CTRL-SHIFT (CMD-SHIFT) to drag them locked in place.
1
You can select clips in the timeline with the Segment Mode tool (or by lassoing them) and then move them left & right in the timeline using the trim keys (m , . and /).

Turns out that rack focus of the DPs bags wasn’t needed.

I don’t wish to worry anyone but it’s so hot in Brisbane today that brick buildings are about to burst into flames. – at South Brisbane, Brisbane
If you use b-roll sequences like me in the assembly stage, use one frame cuts (i-o-x) to mark new shots, it's easy to find them using fast forward / rewind and the 'Clip Frames' option on the Timeline hamburger menu.
1
Always resist fine cutting until you've got your structure sorted. It's fine to throw in a few indicative clips, but not so much that they slow you down. Respect the process, tell your story, colour-in last.

If the sound in a b-roll clip is really great, export it as AIFF or WAV to an external folder, you may find a use for it much later on.
1
Beginner's tip. If you're looking through b-roll, useless picture sometime has great sound (usually atmos). It's worth having a bin for atmos and sound effects that you can subclip this into instead of searching later.

Terrible day. Parked my red Tesla convertible outside Cape Canaveral Space Center and I’m pretty sure it’s been towed.

I've now used Premiere, Avid, and Resolve's trim tools for extended periods. Avid wins. Ditto it's track patching. – at South Brisbane, Brisbane

125k retweets. Provided date works with s3 shooting schedule, I will get ordained and perform ceremony. I get to read an esteemed love letter of my choosing, and after the cake is officially cut, I get the very first piece. #allthecakes xitter.gq/erickaelizabth/status/…

Google-fu failure. Is there a way in Media Composer 8.9 to get the sum of sequence durations in a bin? Previously you could select everything, right click and choose 'Get bin info' to see a summary in the console. @Avid #postdontstop – at South Brisbane, Brisbane
