“The parrot sighting provides hope for seeing the species return in years to come.”
@awconservancy ecologists believe the scarlet-chested parrot’s presence at Scotia Wildlife Sanctuary may have been due to a fire management program that has helped maintain habitat suitability.

To assert dominance, Mulga snakes (Pseudechis australis) will push each other’s heads into the ground in an aggression that can last for hours! 🐍
The loser must leave the area, while the victor claims the exclusive mating rights to local females.

Highlight of a week of pitfall surveys at @awconservancy's Paruna Wildlife Sanctuary: meeting my first Noolbenger (AKA Honey Possum; Tarsipes rostratus).
We were worried for them after the recent drought in SW WA, so it was a great relief to know they persist on the sanctuary. – at Western Australia, Australia

I recently spent two weeks on @awconservancy's Faure Island conducting a pitfall trapping survey to monitor the island's reptiles. We had huge success, catching a large proportion of the species known on the island.
This will be a thread of some of the critters we caught 🦎🧵

The greater stick-nest rat (Leporillus conditor) is munching through African boxthorns and nesting in the plant’s thickets.
While this might not seem unusual, it is actually evidence of a native #animal thriving off an invasive species: ausgeo.co/stickrat
