🚨@GitHub has flagged several key contributors to ad-blocking filter lists, impacting the popular List-KR and disrupting our workflow. We suspect this is due to automated protections, not malicious activity (1/3)🧵
Dear @github, could you please explain why AdGuard filters repository was just disabled? Whichever ad blocker your people are using, there is a high probability that you have one of the filter lists from this repo making your Internet better.

There's still this crazy Core Technology Fee tax but I hope EU antitrust authorities can make Apple reconsider the current approach.

Curl is undoubtedly an awesome tool, but it's been too often lately when I couldn't do what I needed with it. I am too lame to patch curl so I made my own instead: github.com/ameshkov/gocurl It's basically a simplified version of curl written in pure Go, but it also adds some new stuff: encrypted ClientHello support, json output, splitting clienthello, HTTP/3 out-of-the-box.

There's a common misconception that all content blocker developers consider #ManifestV3 declarativeNetRequest evil. This is not true, DNR is not inherently a bad thing and we plan to incorporate it into all our browser extensions in the future. However, here are some important points to consider. 1. We aim for our ad blocker to have minimal, if not zero, permissions by default. This is why we value DNR and also why we need MV3 to include declarative cosmetic rules. These two elements may cover up to 90% of what users need from a content blocker. 2. There will inevitably be scenarios that DNR/DCR can't address, those that require custom solutions via webRequest, content scripts, etc., which would in turn require additional permissions. These permissions can be made optional, granted only by users who truly need them and trust the developer. On the subject of inherently bad things, the problem that we have with Chrome's vision of MV3 is that webRequest is being removed. This means we will no longer have the capability to fill the gaps in DNR.

I am not a big fan of GPL, but if today it leads to making one more content blocker open source I'll reconsider.
Dear @1BlockerApp, we don't mind that you're using AdGuard's filtering engine library in your macOS app. However, we would like to remind that if you're using a GPL-3 library, you must make your app open source as well. Waiting for the link to your source code in reply.

Better filter lists ➡️ better ad blockers.
Behind every ad blocker, like AdGuard, are filtering rules. Creating & maintaining them isn't easy. Say hello to 🔧AGLint, a tool to inspect filter lists for common mistakes. A must-have for anyone working with filtering rules. adguard.com/en/blog/announci…

I am involved with extensions for almost 10 years and I have to admit, despite all the MV3 controversy, what @dotproto did for extensions is a huge step forward and I am very said to see this. Not fair.

Creating an open standard for extensions platform is a very ambitious goal and we’re only half way now, but nevertheless, this is a tremendous achievement. (4/5)

@dotproto I hope that your new job will also be connected to extensions and you can continue what you started, just in a slightly different role. And thank you for what you’ve done already! (5/5)

Shortly after this post the problematic traffic vanished and we don't serve 100 TB of access denied pages anymore: xitter.gq/AdGuard/status/1582721… Probably, developers of those browsers saw a post on hackernews and corrected their mistake. @MonztA is it the same for easylist?
