In Chiang Mai, I met so many young Chinese people--journalists, social workers, crypto nomads-- teeming with energy + creativity, on how to build new structures of being and community there.
A new diaspora. So excited to share their voices + stories:

The shooting of Palestinian journalist Saleh Aljafarawi is an obscenity beyond words.

While investigating @Adobe for deceptive subscription practices, we discovered an executive admitting that hidden early termination fees are “a bit like heroin” for the company.
Subscription tricks and traps have surged as more firms become dependent on subscription-based revenue. It’s up to consumer protection enforcers and lawmakers to stop the abuse.
Do I cancel 4 days early just for the bit? @Adobe This is fucking awesome, I love the way you guys operate, because like, the audacity is insane.

Phenomenal piece of reporting and writing on Gaza and the collapse of international humanitarian law by Suzy Hansen. Total clarity of purpose.

I wrote this story about international students in America in 2020, and sadly it is all the more relevant today.
From the Joyland archives: "Slow Clap" by @azhang852, a story about ambition, betrayal, and the uneasy path from Shenzhen to America. Selected by @AlexKleeman as the winner of the 2022 Open Border Fiction Prize.

RIP to the incandescent Alice Notley. There's innumerable things to say about her and her work, but here's something she said in an interview about Ted Berrigan a couple of years ago, and it seems as fitting a tribute as anything

So this is definitely new territory for both sides.
This is the first time Americans (en masse) are exploring a side of China where China has "home court" media advantage.
And you can tell how this is a bit scary for some Americans, particularly those that see themselves (knowing or subconsciously) in a traditional narrative gatekeeping role.

Israel assassinated farmer Yousef Abu Rabee and his two colleagues today as they were delivering seedlings to his neighbors in the North. He was a true hero, resisting genocide in impossible circumstances. Farewell, my friend. To God we belong and to Him we Return.

The IDF apparently targeted, very specifically, a meeting of teachers, working to figure out a way to provide education for children in Gaza this year.
