Another day and another indie with a "Sorry I can't survive doing this full time anymore."
Anyone who tells you it is a good time to get into game dev either hates you or has no idea what they are talking about.

Calling for regulation on AI is basically the same fear over things like Firearms, LGBT life styles, nuclear power. It comes from a place of manipulation misinformation and ignorance . "The AI is using all our ground water" ok so write the regulations that prohibit evaporative cooling and require close loop or heat exchange
"Its loud, ok so develop regulations that limit sound pollution and compensate near by residents for loss of quality of life(pay thier property tax or mortgage)
Also since so much of the anti data center discussion was fueled by online social media posts theres a non zero chance it was bath faith actors in places like Russian, Iran and China spreading it
The worst boomer coded mind virus is this idea of "that's just the way it is." Hate your job? Find yourself in a situation that isn't serving you anymore? "Well suck it up. That's called growing up kid. In life you have to-" no you don't lol
You're allowed to do something about it. You're allowed to play the game however you want. You don't have to attach your pride to how willing you are to put up with bullshit. Better to come off as "entitled" by shamelessly embracing your true desires than to performatively preach that "nothing comes easy" for the sake of optics
Fuck that shit man. Bet on Yourself

If the populist revolt against AI wins and we end up locking in our status quo of scarcity, menial labour, and the tyranny of aging and disease for the foreseeable future:
I will never, ever forgive the tech leaders who dug our grave by posturing like comic book villains.
It is alarming to see how much anti-AI sentiment is gaining traction, and deeply regrettable, too.
With this technology, we have the potential to change everything for the better, forever. Yet, in the comments sections here, I find myself debating the most trivial matters, as if the majority still fails to grasp the immense power and possibilities that AI brings.

Remember the stories from AAA studios about devs working insane hours and falling asleep at their desks to hit deadlines? Maybe that should be part of the discussion when a new labour-saving technology gets introduced.

We made fun of "you have no idea what's coming" but tbh I didn't see Draco Malfoid coming.

it is genuinely nuts that the difference between living an exceptional life and a mediocre one comes down almost entirely to your ability to recognize which parts of a “normal life” are traps you should avoid at all costs

Don’t understand the concept of an “election night watch party” at all. Election night is not for socializing. It’s for looking at your phone and throwing up

ai getting this good is basically a massive balance patch and elo reset in the game of life

I’m absurdly “pro data centre” and I wonder how much social capital I’ll lose by talking about it about it more
it didn’t even strike me as a political position, just an obvious step on humanity’s path of progress
let’s fix the dirty bits and carry on

Normalise saying “this is really fucking weird, but I don’t think it should be banned”. True liberalism needs to make a comeback.

I have great scorn for AI influencers who brag about "one-shotting" things. Yet I have great admiration for the creators who work hard to build amazing things with AI.
I think it's a real shame that those who hate AI lump both types of people into the same bucket.

The future of #ArtificialIntelligence is not pre-determined. As a technology developed by human beings, its future depends on the choices we make. We therefore have the responsibility to guide, change and, when necessary, reject its applications. A reliable system that serves the human person is of greater value than one that is exceptionally powerful but whose consequences cannot be adequately foreseen or controlled.

software engineering is so back.
> people are reading books again.
> every line of code is being read carefully.
> fundamentals are cool again.
> architecture and system design are back in focus.
> nobody is fighting over frameworks anymore.
> understanding why something works matters again.
> code reviews matter more than lines of code shipped.
> debugging is becoming a superpower again.
> technical judgment matters more than typing speed.
> engineering is about thinking again, not just coding.

Maybe the most romantic thing someone can give you isn't butterflies, it's certainty. Knowing a difficult conversation won't make them leave, their affection won't vanish with a bad mood, knowing you don't have to perform to be loved.
