Your gentle reminder that, though he is leader of the UUP, Burrows has not yet stood in an election and thus has no votes, which I find #deeplyuncomfortable
Jon Burrows says he’s “deeply uncomfortable” that so many people vote for Sinn Féin. It’s called democracy, Jon. The people decide who they vote for and who serves as First Minister - not you, and not the UUP. The days of domination are over.

It's kicking off in Poland right now. Police have descended on the Constitutional Tribunal in Warsaw, while its president, Bogdan Święczkowski, a key ally of President Karol Nawrocki, reportedly arrived with a locksmith to open the gates. Right-wing nationalist President Nawrocki has cancelled his trip to Senegal and is flying back to Poland. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Donald Tusk has said: "Restoring the rule of law is our duty. After years of PiS lawlessness, this is a difficult process, sometimes painful, and requires decisive action. There is no other way."

It's been the long goodbye, but Carla Lockhart will quit the DUP early next week. She's its youngest MP with its biggest majority. She will join forces with Jim Allister - even if not joining his party. Double trouble lies ahead for the DUP. belfasttelegraph.co.uk/comme…

Looking forward to the comprehensive PSNI investigations & media updates for *every* illegal bonfire site next summer. They’re setting quite the precedent for this ‘law & order’ push.
The PSNI has issued an update on its investigation re Garvaghy Rd protests. ▪️30 police officers on the case ▪️70 hours of recorded material is being examined ▪️60 identified suspects ▪️18 people have been interviewed with files being prepared before submission to the PPS

The Government's Call for Evidence on Part K, Protection from Falling, Collision and Impact, presents an important opportunity to examine these questions. The central issue is not simply whether a building complied with the regulations when it was constructed. It is whether the regulatory framework provides sufficient protection against the deterioration, weakening and eventual failure of safety critical structures decades later. It cannot be vague, it needs to be clear cut, at present the "Guidance" is too vague, it needs teeth! #PartK #NoMoreFalls #TheJoshuaTest #CallForEvidence #Housing #BuildingSafety – at Londonderry, Northern Ireland

💰NEW: Manchester United director Edward Glazer has donated $200,000 to Trump’s Republican Party ahead of the midterms, @CityAM can reveal. Owners at Palace, Villa, Bournemouth and Ipswich (as well as Boehly) have given cash ahead of Tuesday’s vote, too. cityam.com/manchester-united…

It’ll be great if the PSNI put the same time and effort into investigating and arresting some of the 12,000 active loyalist paramilitaries or those loyalist bands that engage in sectarian abuse of Catholics and who promote support for the UDA/UVF. But I won’t hold my breath!

Has Emma Little Pengelly claimed that Michelle O’Neill has no authority, as FM, to represent NI, without Emma’s permission, but that Emma, alone, will continue to represent NI, through direct talks with the PM, without by-your-leave from the FM? Have I got that right?

I grew up in Lagan Valley and I've had a front row seat to the DUP my whole life. Over the last decade, political unionism led by them made a number of grave miscalculations. At the heart of this is the fact that they claim to care about Northern Ireland, yet have taken many decisions that have damaged it. They want things their own way. Not the way that makes NI prosperous or cohesive, not with all communities in mind, no- it's about what they want. In doing so, they have actually consistently harmed the union. And they hate me pointing it out. But I think people deserve to know. 1/

Did I miss #Nolan asking Givan about his #unlawful behaviour when 1st minister? Did I also miss Nolan asking him about his meetings with unionist paramilitaries? I also didn't hear the discussion on him preventing his officials attending scrutiny or the £30k to Richill FC?

If I've read the law correctly, the deputy first minister resigning would remove the first minister from office but leave her in a caretaker role. So Michelle O'Neill would still be there symbolically leading a caretaker executive on her own.
